Nutritional Counseling
Roundworms, also called ascarids, are worms with round bodies that live in the dog’s intestines and consume partially digested food. Roundworms can cause weight loss, decreased appetite, vomiting or diarrhea in some dogs while other dogs may be without symptoms. Puppies can die with serious roundworm infections. Roundworms pass eggs in the dog’s stool that must be found with a microscope.

As you can see in the footnote below, these numbers represent approximately 30% of the cases of heartworm disease present in Licking County. We believe the risk of Heartworm Disease in Dogs in Licking county is approximately 1.5% to 2% which means about 1 to 2 dogs in 100 may be Positive for Heartworm Disease.

Whipworms are worms that live in the dog’s intestines (cecum and colon) where they cause severe irritation. Whipworm infections in dogs can cause watery, bloody diarrhea, weight loss, and general debilitation. Puppies can die with serious whipworm infections. Whipworms pass eggs in the dog’s stool that must be found with a microscope.
Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
For most acute conditions such as a skin infection – one treatment may be all that is needed. For chronic conditions such as treating chronic pain, a pet will likely start off with every other day treatments. Some pets benefit from monthly treatments. A total of eight treatments is standard for most conditions.
Upper Respiratory Illness Treatment
Keep vaccinations current. It is especially important to prevent contagious diseases such as respiratory disease in senior pets. Common respiratory infections that cause only mild symptoms in young pets can lead to pneumonia in senior pets.

Parvovirus Infection Treatment
Parvovirus (Parvoviral Enteritis or “Parvo,” for short) is a virus causing severe infection in puppies and dogs that we see fairly commonly here in the Licking County and Granville area.
Bacterial and Viral Infection Treatment
Parvo invades and destroys rapidly growing cells in the intestine, bone marrow and lymphoid tissue resulting in nausea, vomiting and severe hemorrhagic (bloody) diarrhea. The invasion of the bone marrow cells causes a decrease in the white blood cell count leading to increased susceptibility to bacterial infections and sometimes to a shock-like condition called endotoxemia. The disease can vary from mild to fatal if not properly treated.

Hip Dysplasia Treatment
Many dogs with arthritis and joint pain benefit from laser therapy. The treatments often start every other day for a week, then decrease to twice weekly then weekly.
Diabetes Treatment
Heart Disease Treatment
“Dog breath” – or a cat with a foul-smelling mouth – can be a sign of untreated dental conditions. If left untreated, you may put your pet at risk for greater problems such as periodontitis or heart disease.
Kidney Disease Treatment
Monitor your pet’s water consumption. Increased thirst can be signs of disease such as kidney disease or diabetes. Dogs normally drink 20 to 40 milliliters per pound of body weight per day, or about 3 to 4 cups of water per day for a 20-pound dog. Anything more than that, under normal environmental conditions, is considered too much.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
For pets that don’t yet have obvious signs of dental and gum disease, routine cleanings can help prevent periodontal disease and save money in the long run. A 2014 analysis conducted by Veterinary Pet Insurance Co. showed that the average cost per pet to prevent dental disease is
Cancer Treatment

Seizure Treatment
Once your pet has died, you might observe involuntary muscle contractions or respiratory gasps about one or two minutes after the loss of consciousness and circulation. Again this is not evidence of pain or consciousness, but instead, it represents a physiologic response that occurs whenever the brain is deprived of circulation. The unconscious animal may also lose bladder or bowel control. Veterinarians often cover the pet immediately after injecting the euthanasia solution to partially shield the pet owner from these physiologic responses, which may still be disturbing.
Wound and Fracture Care
Treat pain caused by musculoskeletal disorders such as: cruciate ligament injury, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), degenerative myelopathy, neck pain, back pain, paralysis, loss of motor control, osteoarthritis, post-operative fracture repair, and degenerative joint disease.

Laser Surgery
Ear cropping is a surgical procedure that involves removal of part of the pinnae (ear tissue) to create an upright pointy ear. We use laser surgery. It is most commonly done in Doberman Pinschers, Great Danes, Boxers, Miniature Pinschers, Pit Bull, Beauceron and Caucasian Shepard Dogs. At Granville Veterinary Clinic, we most commonly perform the surgery on Doberman Pinschers, Great Danes and Boxers but have seen many more of these breeds.
