First, I'd like to say that the menu on Yellow Pages.com is NOT the menu of this China Kitchen location. Apparently someone posted the menu of another China Kitchen as the menu for this restaurant. However, this location is independently owned and operated, and is not affiliated with any of the others. I found out when I called this restaurant to order takeout, and she was not familiar with the Crabmeat with Garlic Sauce item on the menu. She kept asking me what number, and I told her there were no numbers next to the menu items. I placed the rest of my order (without the crabmeat dish), and she suggested I bring in the menu with me when I came to pick it up so she could look at it. She said it would only take a few minutes to make my meal, regardless of what I ordered. When I arrived, the woman was very surprised to see that there were many, many dishes on the menu that they do not sell. Also, the prices were wrong. She thanked me several times for alerting her to this. Since they really did not have the crabmeat dish, I ordered chicken in garlic sauce. The chicken in garlic sauce was good. Not outstanding, but good. My mother-in-law liked her vegetable chop suey. The kids, however, did not like the moo goo gai pan because it was missing pineapple. I thought all moo goo gai pan contained pineapple, but maybe not. The bottom line: I would go there again. The owner was friendly and willing to accommodate, the food was reasonably priced, and the portions are decent.
i had lunch delivered on a friday. it was delivered in about 30 minutes just like they said. the food was very good and the portions were big. i enj…
My title pretty much says it all. If you go to First Wok and eat there, you usually get pretty good service and food(most of the time) I wanted to get some take out one time(I live pretty far from their convenient locations) and ordered chicken fried rice, an egg roll, and egg drop soup. I went all the way back home and discovered not only was the egg roll burnt badly on the ends but the soup was not the normal yellow color it always it but it was a lot darker. If you usually get the egg drop soup from First Wok then you know what I'm talking about. So the soup was a lot darker and it was awful. Then the chicken fried rice was burnt too! There were huge clumps if rice and chicken stuck together and it was hard. GROSS. I didn’t take it back, I just called and spoke to the cashier(?) and told her. I wish I could say this was the only time this happened when I got take out but it wasn’t. The second time it happened it was only the chicken fried rice that was awful in the same exact way. Then I drove all the way back because I spoke with the cashier on the phone and when I got there she smelled it and said "it doesn’t smell burnt, let me have the cook look at it." It did not matter what the cook said because I got my money back and haven’t gone there since. This was the First Wok on 44th street.
I'm crazy about this place! The food is always fresh and delicious. My favorite dish is the "Szechuan Bean Curd" (vegetables and tofu). It's loaded with a beautiful colorful assortment of fresh vegetables. My husband also likes the sesame chicken. They know how to cook like NO ONE else - - it's amazing!! The food is so flavorful, and the tofu is perfect: a little crispy on the outside. My husband is nutso over their crab cheese (crab rangoon) (best in town). The place is ultra clean, and they are the nicest people in the world. I order my food "vegan" (they get it), and "extra hot pepper" (beware: those hot peppers are hotter than any you've EVER had around here). My husband isn't vegan but he LOVES the Szechuan Bean Curd, because it is simply the best dang dinner or lunch you'll ever have. And I don't toss off good reviews casually!!!
