First, I'd like to say that the menu on Yellow Pages.com is NOT the menu of this China Kitchen location. Apparently someone posted the menu of another China Kitchen as the menu for this restaurant. However, this location is independently owned and operated, and is not affiliated with any of the others. I found out when I called this restaurant to order takeout, and she was not familiar with the Crabmeat with Garlic Sauce item on the menu. She kept asking me what number, and I told her there were no numbers next to the menu items. I placed the rest of my order (without the crabmeat dish), and she suggested I bring in the menu with me when I came to pick it up so she could look at it. She said it would only take a few minutes to make my meal, regardless of what I ordered. When I arrived, the woman was very surprised to see that there were many, many dishes on the menu that they do not sell. Also, the prices were wrong. She thanked me several times for alerting her to this. Since they really did not have the crabmeat dish, I ordered chicken in garlic sauce. The chicken in garlic sauce was good. Not outstanding, but good. My mother-in-law liked her vegetable chop suey. The kids, however, did not like the moo goo gai pan because it was missing pineapple. I thought all moo goo gai pan contained pineapple, but maybe not. The bottom line: I would go there again. The owner was friendly and willing to accommodate, the food was reasonably priced, and the portions are decent.
My title pretty much says it all. If you go to First Wok and eat there, you usually get pretty good service and food(most of the time) I wanted to get some take out one time(I live pretty far from their convenient locations) and ordered chicken fried rice, an egg roll, and egg drop soup. I went all the way back home and discovered not only was the egg roll burnt badly on the ends but the soup was not the normal yellow color it always it but it was a lot darker. If you usually get the egg drop soup from First Wok then you know what I'm talking about. So the soup was a lot darker and it was awful. Then the chicken fried rice was burnt too! There were huge clumps if rice and chicken stuck together and it was hard. GROSS. I didn’t take it back, I just called and spoke to the cashier(?) and told her. I wish I could say this was the only time this happened when I got take out but it wasn’t. The second time it happened it was only the chicken fried rice that was awful in the same exact way. Then I drove all the way back because I spoke with the cashier on the phone and when I got there she smelled it and said "it doesn’t smell burnt, let me have the cook look at it." It did not matter what the cook said because I got my money back and haven’t gone there since. This was the First Wok on 44th street.
I'm crazy about this place! The food is always fresh and delicious. My favorite dish is the "Szechuan Bean Curd" (vegetables and tofu). It's loaded with a beautiful colorful assortment of fresh vegetables. My husband also likes the sesame chicken. They know how to cook like NO ONE else - - it's amazing!! The food is so flavorful, and the tofu is perfect: a little crispy on the outside. My husband is nutso over their crab cheese (crab rangoon) (best in town). The place is ultra clean, and they are the nicest people in the world. I order my food "vegan" (they get it), and "extra hot pepper" (beware: those hot peppers are hotter than any you've EVER had around here). My husband isn't vegan but he LOVES the Szechuan Bean Curd, because it is simply the best dang dinner or lunch you'll ever have. And I don't toss off good reviews casually!!!
I've been there numerous times. My extended family also enjoys meeting there to visit while enjoying a meal. There is a good selection of dishes and more diversity than one might expect. Like any restaurant, some dishes don't seem as good as at other restaurants. However it's been my experience that Red Sun strives to improve even dishes I thought were good - & it shows. The only problems have been fruit not totally ripe (a common problem in restaurants in the winter, it seems) & the pastries get stale. Perhaps setting fewer pastries out at a time or finding a better way to cover them would help. On the whole, I always recommend Red Sun. I've even taken people there who claim not to care for Asian cuisine & they were surprised at how tasty the food is.
I went with my mom a few months ago and the food runner brought us our food and set our plates. It was only after my mom took a bite did she realize he brought us the wrong food. Before he could walk away she mentioned that it wasn't our food. He apologized and picked up the plates and we watched as he took the food to the correct table. Eww! My mom had taken a bite amd rather than going to get this couple new meals he fed them food that someone had already eaten part of. We didn't know if we should tell them or not but we did mention it to the manager who didn't really seem to care.
Alright, at first I thought the other 5 star reviews may have been just from family and friends...being that this is a new place. Wrong and/or I don't care! I just ordered food for my family of 4...AWESOME!!! Chinese food done right! One review said something like "don't let the fact that it is in a strip mall fool you...it is good" (or something like that). Yeah, it is in a strip mall but it is very clean inside, the people are very friendly and the food is amazing! Plainfield has needed a place like this for a long time now! My new favorite place!
I ordered the Kung Fu chicken, and it was fantastic. The chicken was lightly breaded and fried CRISPY. The texture was out of this world. It is served in a brown, spicy sauce with green pepper, onion, and some Chinese vegetables. Absolutely delicious. I gave the place a shot because of the 5-star reviews, and am now compelled to share this place with others. The lunch special is $5.50 (as of Dec 2015) and comes with a good sized portion of the meal and fried rice, with a crab cheese wonton and a can of pop. Great value.
We have had dinner at this eatery many times. The service is excellent with wonderful wait staff. The food is always great with portions that leave you satisfied when you leave. We have never experienced a bad night of dining when dining here. The kids have also always been greatly satisfied. We would recommend this eatery to anyone that has Chinese food on the mind for dinner. We have never experienced a long wait to be seated either and that is a plus for us.
Great Value for the money! At lunch I usually get Sweet and Sour Chicken, Cashew Chicken, or Orange Chicken, a very big helping I might add, which comes with your choice of White or Fried Rice, Chicken Wing and Eggroll, or Crab Cheese, and Egg Drop Soup or Hot and Sour Soup, and Hot Tea, all for under $7.00. They have wonderful food and service and I have frequented there for the past 8 years. Definately a 5 star rating from me!
Yum and his family have been in the restaurant business all of their lives. They are experienced in their cuisine, and they make the food taste wonderful. The Sub Gum Sizzling Rice Soup is the best! The prices are resonable, and they are generous in their portions. The atmosphere is pleasant, and they serve a buffet 7 days a week during lunch hours. Try it, you may find that you have a new favorite place to eat! Yummy!
