On 09/14/21 I've broken down on i-101, half-way from San Francisco, driving my daughter to UCSB during the night. With the engine's rough stalling and the dashboard turning into a christmas decorations, I suspected the worst - timing belt teeth being torn. As the flatbed was driving us to Goleta I was looking through the reviews of all repair shops to whom I could entrust my well taken care off and reliable, but well aged (18yo) LexusGX470. I was glad to find someone open early 7:30am as I needed to have my car working to move my daughter to UCSB with all of her belongings and leave the same day, as I had a flight out of SFO the next day.
The man on the phone first dashed my expectations, as he claimed to be very busy, but offered to take a look and attempt to diagnose the problem.
Being mechanically inclined, I have better than average expectations off the auto repair shops. I've met Dannon, the owner, and I felt more secure about leaving my vehicle. I welcomed, her conservative and detailed approach.
Approximately two hours later I've received a status call, letting me know that error codes were pointing to the crankshaft/crankcase sensors -- the price tag was steep, but reflective of the dealers' part's high price. Despite this, I was allayed, since it wasn't the timing belt and the interference engine was fine. Thus, I agreed to this repair as I could get the car back same day.
An hour later, more good news was forthcoming, I received another call. The issue was with the electric harness, it was shorting, thus, a significantly smaller and cardinally less expensive repair.
I was elated that I was being helped in such an honest and professional way.
I picked my WORKING truck and was back home in San Francisco same day.
