Best Sandwiches and Pasta in Glendale ALWAYS FRESH MEATS AND BREAD!
i love this place. the sandwiches are huge and tasty. you won't be dissappointed.
i love mario's! you have to order the bad boy sub. this is my addiction.
Whether you're shopping for ingredients for your next home cooked Italian meal or wanting some delicious takeaway, Mario's Italian Deli is the place for you. Try the chicken parm sandwich but be warned -- it's big in size and flavour! Wide selection and great prices!
Ive recently started going to MArios since begining to work in Glendal and I must say These sandwiches are soo good. The best sandwiches at an affordable price. about 8 bucks gets you a great sandwich.
I grew up in New York and spent countless hours enjoying deli sandwiches and other delicacies available from any number of corner deli establishments. Much of what made those places great included the personalities of the characters who worked at these places, along with those who frequented these coveted culinary spots.

So you can imagine my sheer delight upon stepping into Mario's Italian Deli for lunch one day, with all the hustle and bustle and sights and sounds of the delis I ate at as a kid. Italian music blaring, customers reaching all over each other to take a number for service, aisle after aisle of items available only at an authentic Italian grocer - like Stella D'Oro baked goods and such.

But what really did it for me was the fresh taste of the sandwiches, fresh and made to order with a great selection of meats and toppings. One bite and I was transported back to my childhood on the east coast. I will say this: GO HUNGRY so you can really enjoy all the deliciousness that Mario's has to offer!
I came here with friends one weekend afternoon and the place was packed! It reminds me of the old Italian deli's I used to go to as a kid on the east coast. I ordered the Special Spicy Italian Sub and in addition to being huge, the taste was amazing. I can't wait to go back and look through all the aisles of Italian groceries and specialty items!
It's a good thing this place is NOT within an easy walking distance from where I work on North Brand. Of course I guess I could justify consuming the caloric content of a sub sandwich as long as my forearm by walking round trip from the office to this little slice of heaven and back. Problem is, I honestly don't think I could move after eating one of their subs - at least not any farther than from the front door of the place to the lot in the back where my car is parked.
Anyway...
We had some friends in town visiting from Montreal over the weekend and decided to have a picnic of sorts on their next to last day in LA. Someone suggested sammiches, salads (of pasta and green varieties), and other picnic-friendly snacky foods. And since our guests were staying at a hotel in Glendale, Mario's was THE natural choice for authentic Italian subs and the like.
Now, I grew up on the east coast - in the boroughs of New York - and I remember the sights, sounds and smells that assaulted my senses as I stepped into many a neighborhood deli during my childhood. Moving to Jersey and attending college met with more of the same spicy Italian goodness, with a dive called Greasy Tony's located within a safe stumbling distance of our favorite college town watering holes. The prices were low, the grease quantity high, and their spicy Italian sub did the trick every time.
The thing about Italian-styled deli's on the west coast is this: if they have to tell you they're "authentic," then chances are they're not. But not so with Mario's! I walked into the place late on a Saturday afternoon and not only was business brisk, but all of the sights, sounds and smells of my childhood and college remembrances of a real Italian deli whacked me upside my head!
In addition to the cases of fresh cold cuts, salads and cheeses and the like, and stack upon stack of freshly baked bread, there was aisle after aisle of random groceries - pasta, tapinades, oils and other sundries, plus authentic baked goods and more. I was in heaven...
As for the food...good golly miss molly! I ordered a spicy Italian sub and it knocked my socks off - wait - I wasn't waring any, but if I was, they'd be gone! My sandwich had the perfect amount of EVERYTHING - meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard...and the thing was HUGE! They also have this unique way of slicing the bread so that you end up with a double-decker of sorts - bread on the bottom, a layer of meats and fixins, then another layer of bread, topped by even more fixins, and crowned with the crusty, fresh baked top of the roll. Words fall infinitely short - you simply MUST eat it to understand it!
If you are a fan of great sammiches, you simply MUST go to this place. But I warn you - GO HUNGRY, and GO OFTEN!
