        In 1972 Charles Salvaggio and his new wife Barbara expanded on a concept Charles had recognized while working on a Sears and Roebuck carpet installation crew. In 1972, shag carpet was all the rage and Charles realized that after the carpet was installed all of the interior doors would drag requiring them to be cut down to properly clear. Charles purchased a saw and built a straight edge to handle the task. The simple necessity evolved into a thriving business. Over the next 25 years, the business grew into a full service door and hardware installation company. Over 40 years later, Memphis Door & Hardware continues to evolve and grow and is still a family business. Tony Salvaggio - Charles and Barbara's oldest son - owns and operates the company along with his wife Tami. As a young boy, Tony would frequently ride with his father on the service truck and at a young age was able to mortise and install an exterior door as taught by his father. Today, Memphis Door & Hardware is the oldest continuously operated door installation company in the Memphis area. Services continue to expand but the same attention to quality sales, service and installation have remained.
