Bridges
In most cases, dental implants are stronger and more durable than bridges and dentures. Single implants can serve to support your crown replacing a single missing tooth. Implants can also support a dental bridge for replacement of multiple missing teeth. Patients with full dentures often struggle with instability and discomfort which limits their function. Implants placed to help stabilize a denture can decrease pain and allow you to chew without difficulty.

Root Canal Treatment
More than 30 million Americans are missing all of their teeth in one or both jaws. By the age of 74, 26% of adults have lost all of their permanent teeth. 69% of adults ages 35 to 44 have lost at least one permanent tooth as a result of an accident, gum disease, a failed root canal or tooth decay.

Dentures
Pre-prosthetic Surgery is an Oral and Maxillofacial procedure to prepare your mouth before your dentist places a prosthesis (complete or partial dentures). Your denture will sit on the bony ridge. In order to ensure the denture fits well in your mouth and feels comfortable, the bone and tissue area must be the appropriate shape and size. When a tooth is extracted, the area beneath the extracted tooth may be left uneven or jagged. This bone may need to be reshaped or leveled. Sometimes, the bone may need to be removed.

Dental Implants
The key to the success of your dental implants is the quality and quantity of the bone where the dental implant will be placed. The most difficult area to place dental implants is in the upper back jaw because there is insufficient bone and is in very close proximity to your sinus. If you have insufficient bone in the upper back jaw due to tooth loss or periodontal disease, there may not be enough bone to place a dental implant (see Figure 1).

Maxillofacial Surgery
Dr. Michael Brady attended the University of Rochester as an undergraduate from 1990 to 1994, where he received his BA in Biology with a minor in Health and Society. He played on the football team and was also involved in intramurals, community service and leadership programs. He was accepted to the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1998, with a minor in periodontology. He then attended the prestigious Johns Hopkins University Hospital for a General Practice Residency from 1998 to 1999. From there he went to the Westchester Medical Center of New York Medical College for his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency from 1999 to 2003. He served as Chief Resident from 2002 to 2003. He joined the three-generation family practice of his father-in-law, Dr. William J. Simmonds, Jr. in 2003 and continues to grow this practice.
