I am new to the area and asked people I knew where I could get some good Chinese, well only one person I asked eats Chinese and said to go here, her 8 year old son didn't agree with her and I should have listened to him. I love Almond Chicken but this was the worst I have ever had. The chicken was soggy and had no real flavor to it and the gravy was (if thats what you really want to call it) was a brown gravy that too had no flavor but absolutely loaded with salt!!! I normally LOVE my leftovers but these went straight to the garbage can. I should have known when my take out was ready in 5 minutes. Don't waste your time and especially money!!!! I HAVE to rate it but believe me it isn't worth a 1.

By far best Chinese restaurant I have ever eaten at. Ask for Chinese style orange beef not on menu. Pair with dry garlic shrimp and you are in heaven. You will crave New Peking after that!!!

My brother and I took my mom here last night and I was hopeful after seeing the packed parking lot and hearing the positive reviews. I was heartily disappointed and frankly shocked by the amount of people who write glowing reviews of this utterly mediocre restaurant. I haven't been to China, but if this is what ""authentic"" Chinese food is like there, I'll pass. My favorite 'Chinese' restaurant is Sze Chuan in Canton, and this meal came no where near the quality and flavor of Sze Chuan. \r If I could pick zero stars I would. New Peking sucked, no two ways about it. I eat ethnic food almost every day, so typical ""Americanized Chinese"" almond chicken bores me. We took our mom here last night and the best thing was the frozen deep fried crab Rangoon. Flavorless was the word for the rest of the meal. The tea was awful, not sure when it was last brewed but it amounted to brown water. The spring rolls were terrible. I ordered orange chicken, again flavorless. I had so much leftover that it almost didn't fit in the carryout box. My brother had the sesame chicken, again, flavorless. The vegetable egg foo yung was okay, mostly bland, but my mom liked it so that was good. I wish we had driven to canton for an excellent meal at Sze Chuan. Instead we threw our leftovers away. I'm astounded by all of these positive reviews. Drive a half hour west and get a really great meal. This was gross \r and I wouldn't eat here again.

I recently returned from Shanghai, China. The food at New Peking is great, can't tell the difference.\r \r I'm in either Hong Kong or Shanghai almost monthly, I know what Chinese food tastes like. New Peking is authentic.\r \r The Service by Chen, family and his crew is without a doubt excellant.\r \r We live in Canton, we pass many Chinese eateries places to eat here!

In fact we dont even bother going to any other chinese restaurants anymore because there is no comparison.

I have been going to this place since I was 12 yrs old. Very friendly staff owners are just great people. Now comes the food OMG everything I have eaten here is just amazing. There dishes are top Notch, from the appetizers to main entrees SIMPLY AMAZING!! I live 65 miles away from here now and I still make it at least once a month for the food. Hot and sour soup, egg rolls, steamed dumplings with the spicy sauce, Hunan Chicken, Yen King chicken, Phoenix chicken, shrimp with lobster sauce and pea pods, Chicken Fried rice crab Rangoon, ect everything here is great.

Went to this place thinking the poor reviews were people who didn't like ""different"" or ""authentic"" based on other reviews. Well... if school cafeteria style frozen carrots/peas in MULTIPLE dishes is what's authentic, I must be sorely mistaken in my views on authenticity. Food wasn't horrible, but definitely was not great, or even good. General's chicken not only tastes different than general (excuse the pun) General Tso's chicken, it doesn't taste like much at all. Bland brown sauce saved only by good blend of fresh broccoli, dried peppers, etc. Every other dish, though (soups, house specialties like their spicy shrimp) is full of peas and carrot chunks right out of a bag of frozen vegetable mix. Sauces are overly sweet or bland (one shrimp dish was somewhat spicy). Though a big selection on the menu (including Pad Thai, cocktails made with Sake, etc.), wouldn't recommend too much.
I stopped by here once about five years ago when I was working in Garden City for the day. I asked the waitress what to order. She suggested the peking chicken. I am so glad I tried that dish, it is by far my favorite meal. I mean if I had one last meal this would be it kind of favorite meal!!! I live in Sterling Hgts and have driven 40 miles at least 10 times to get this chicken. It is that good. I wish so bad they would open a restaurant on the east side. I found out they won a bunch of awards for the dish back in the 80's and if you try it you will know why. Heck they named the restaurant after it.

We drive past at least 20 Chinese restaurants to get to New Peking. It is worth the drive and every penny. Great food and service and I have never had to wait. Lunch or dinner, I highly recommend New Peking!

New Peking has fast service and the best Chinese food I've ever tasted, their interior is lovely and very ornately decorated with oriental flowers and Chinese art. Jasmine tea is aromatic and served in your own teapot with authentic Asian tea style cups (no handles, be careful, its hot!) Wait staff wear a uniform of crisp white shirts, vests and bow ties and are always genial. Been coming here for nearly 15 years and nothing else ever compares to them! Their menu is huge and everything always comes out hot and delicious; I definitely recommend the Mongolian Beef if you like spicy dishes!

This place has been there for more than 20 years..If its not good how can it stay in business for so many years? Some of the reviewers gave one star maybe because all they know is"" American-Chinese"" food. I give New-Peking 5 star for food and 4 star for service..

Horrible! save your money!, the food was awful, the service was poor, left hungry, if u do go here, dont say I didnt warn you! I have no idea what food these other people ate (other reviews), but this was not a good place to eat.

This was by far the worst chinese I've ever had! The egg drop soup tasted like soapy water with celery flavor added in, and even worse it had a green tint instead of the normal yellow, and instead of egg there was tofu (??), carrots & peas. The pork fried rice was so greasy that you couldn't even eat it, the pineapples in the sweet and sour chicken tasted as if they had soaked in butter overnight and the general tso chicken was sweet rather than hot and spicy. We will not be recommending this place to anyone!
I grew up near here and have been a fan of their food for going on 15 years now. Every time I'm in the Garden City area I make sure to stop in and get an order of Peking Shrimp because I just can't find anything like it anywhere else.
Chinese is one of my favorite foods. After I tried New Peking a few months ago I will not eat at any other Chinese restaurant. I have tried many things there & what makes the food so special is the sauces they use. I can understand why they do such good business

The Hot Pepper Shrimp here is great. \r If you are Korean, than order from the Korean menu. They have the best ja jang myun and jam bong in Michigan.

I've been going to New Peking my entire life and it's consistently a great, fast, and inexpensive meal. The entree sizes are huge and can easily be split between 2 or even 3 people. I know several friends with Chinese ancestry who love New Peking above all other Chinese restaurants in the entire SE Michigan area. Contrary to the review by ggharee, the Crab Rangoons are delicious and easily the best anywhere (and so good you have to try more than one). We've converted many fans to New Peking simply based on their crab rangoons. They aren't overstuffed or sweet like many, they are savory and have a hint of green onion and garlic. They taste best fresh from the kitchen though, contrasted with takeout. One very impressive and unusual dish is the Sizzling Rice with Chicken - it's excellent with a sweet and sour flavor.

I was very disappointed in this meal. The crab rangoon were overcooked salty and had barely any filling. The rest of the meal was bland and there was hardly any rice. Probably one of the worst Chinese experiences I have had in Detroit.

if you want chinese food and it is not a special night then this is the place to satisfy a craving. the service is so so fast that you think they have it waiting for you in the back the whole time. sometimes the food is off like one week it tastes great and the next week the same dish tastes different. overall this place is good for a family dinner but not for anything out of this world.

This is not on the standard menu, but all the staff eat this dish...They love it and you will too. Ask for the Seafood soup! Expect to have a very LARGE bowl of this wonderful tasting soup! If seafood isnt your preference, but like spicy food, ask for the Yen King Chicken, and ask for it HOT! Its the best dish anywhere. And you cant find another restuarant that carries this dish.
