Overall

My dog loves GVH!

Overall I have always been pleased with the doctors and staff at this hospital. I receive such warm greetings when Gus checks in for boarding. Both Dr. Scott and Dr. Ford have treated Gus for a variety of illnesses and have been there in our time of need. Great Hospital!

Great experience!

Dr. Scott and Dr. Ford are wonderful! The staff is very efficient and caring of my animals! The boarding facility is the best around! There is a big back yard for the dogs to go out and play. My dog loves it!

Many breeds of dogs are susceptible to ear infections. Surgical treatment on ears improves air flow into the ear canal and can reduce the occurrence of ear infections.

Arthritis Treatment
Arthritis is a complex condition involving inflammation of one or more joints. There are many causes of arthritis in pets, but the most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis (or bony arthritis), which is also known as degenerative joint disease.
Hip Dysplasia Treatment
We are able to radiograph your dog’s hips for hip dysplasia at 24 months of age. We will forward these radiographs to a Board Certified Radiologist for OFA certification. Correct positioning of your dog is essential for proper radiographic evaluation, so a general anesthetic is required to make the procedure less stressful for him or her.
Thyroid Disease Treatment
Endocrinology is the study of hormones and there are several common endocrine disorders found in dogs and cats. Hypothyroidism is often diagnosed in dogs. Hypothyroidism indicates that the animal has low levels of circulating thyroid hormone. The opposite is true for cats. They are frequently diagnosed with high levels of circulating thyroid hormones.

Heart disease is a serious life threatening condition but early diagnosis and appropriate therapy can extend your pet’s life.
Kidney Disease Treatment
Geriatric animals have significantly different requirements than young growing puppies or kittens. Animals with diabetes or kidney disease also have different requirements.
Periodontal Disease Treatment
A veterinarian should evaluate your pet’s dental health at least once a year. We recommend this because bacteria and food debris accumulates around a pet’s teeth and, if left unchecked, will lead to deterioration of the soft tissue and bone surrounding the teeth. This decay results in irreversible periodontal disease and even tooth loss.

Seizure Treatment
A general anesthetic results in a loss of consciousness in the animal and a loss of sensation throughout the body. Most general anesthetic procedures involve several steps beginning with the administration of a sedative. An intravenous injection of an anesthetic renders the animal unconscious while a breathing tube is placed into the animal’s trachea. A gas anesthetic is delivered in combination with oxygen to the animal via the breathing tube to maintain the state of unconsciousness.

Laboratory Services
Dermatology refers to the study of the skin. Skin disease is a frequently observed problem in dogs and cats. Diagnosing a skin problem in your pet may simply require an examination by a veterinarian; however, most skin diseases or problems require additional steps to accurately obtain a diagnosis. Additional diagnostic procedures may include blood work, urinalysis, skin scraping, biopsies, etc.
X-Ray
Microchipping
Microchipping has become a very popular and safe way to permanently identify your pet in the unfortunate case that your pet is lost. Microchipping involves placement of a small electronic chip the size and shape of a piece of rice just under the skin in the neck area. A needle is used to inject the chip. The injection is comparable to a regular vaccine injection.
