The Women’s and Children’s PFAC launched in May 2018. This council engages with leadership, staff, and physicians specific to Obstetrics and Pediatrics departments at Covenant HealthCare and focuses on process improvement and program development to better incorporate patient-centered care models within our Birth Center, Pediatrics, Pediatric ICU, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Patient Advisors of this group work to improve visitation guidelines, pediatric and infant safety, and enhance the labor, delivery, and post-partum experience. The Women’s and Children’s PFAC meets on a monthly basis, the 4th Wednesday from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Harrison campus. Patients/Parents/Caregivers accepted into this group have recent care experiences in one or more areas of the birth center, pediatrics, or NICU departments. Applications for this council are currently being accepted.

Hospital medicine is a specialty in which physicians focus on caring for patients in the hospital setting. Hospitalists work closely with the patient, family members, primary care physicians, specialists and other departments of the hospital to provide high quality and effective inpatient care. Public Health Activities: We may disclose PHI to a public health authority for public health-related activities. These activities include disclosures to prevent or control disease, injury, or disability; to report births and deaths; to investigate potential instances of child abuse or neglect; to report reactions to medications or problems with products to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA); and to notify people of recalls of products they may be using. We may also release PHI to coroners, medical examiners, and funeral directors to enable them to carry out their duties. Under Michigan law we must report information about certain conditions, such as HIV/AIDS and cancer, to central registries. We are also required to report information about immunizations to schools, provided that we have received any required consents for such disclosure.

This council engages with leadership, staff, and physicians throughout the Cancer Care Center and focuses on operations and process enhancement to better incorporate patient-centered care models within the center. Patient advisors of this group support improvement at the Mackinaw campus in everything from the smaller amenities such as the gift shop through large-scale projects such as enhancing care coordination and patient education. The Cancer Care Center PFAC meets every other month on the 3rd Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Mackinaw campus. Patients/caregivers accepted into this group have had recent care experiences with the Cancer Care Center. Applications for this council are always being accepted.

When you get services from an in-network hospital or ambulatory surgical center, certain providers there may be out of-network. In these cases, the most those providers may bill you is your plan’s in-network cost-sharing amount. This applies to emergency medicine, anesthesia, pathology, radiology, laboratory, neonatology, assistant surgeon, hospitalist, or intensivist services. These providers can’t balance bill you and may not ask you to give up your protections not to be balance billed.
