Staying organized on moving day is key, and planning is a big part of it. Keep this checklist handy before and during your move to keep things stress-free.
We've put together a small list to get you started on your journey -- and the first step starts with a single box.
Green Van Lines performed a great job. They were very fast, sharp, professional and polite. They conducted the entire move with care and great expertise. The sales representative explicated all the ins and outs of the move elaborately. My wife asked the sales representative numerous questions but he attended each question very sincerely with a view to clear out the doubts. It was really amazing. The representative also ensured us proper compensation for any case of loss or damage of articles during move. We were not afraid of losing anything because Green Van Lines fellows were very cautious of each and every priced possession of the client. Moreover, Green Van Lines guys did their job at incredible speed and perfection. If I am asked to mention anything else about my best moving experience, I will definitely refer to this one. When they were in work, they did not take rest for a while and accomplished everything after working for a long time at a stretch. One thing was very interesting about them. They worked in an environment friendly way. No dust, no pollution. All the vehicles were properly tested and free from all sorts of detrimental emission containing carbon and lead. They did not create any environmental pollution. All the materials used by them were bio-degradable by nature. Therefore, being an environmentalist by profession, I am fond of them. Before move, when we were having discussion with the representative, we came to know of the price quoted by Green Van Lines. At the initial stage, I assumed that I would have to pay quite more than the amount said. It was very natural and price was expected to get fluctuated a bit. I was ready for that but when I went to pay the amount, I was totally surprised. The estimated price was exactly the same as the price said earlier. This incident satisfied me a lot. From then onwards, I started believing them. Their system was very transparent. Everyone could get a clear view of it. The name of Green Van Lines can be suggested with great confidence. Thanks Green Van Lines. Thanks for your client-oriented service!
Most of the movers have the tendency to insist clients on doing a lot of things that charge more. I found only one company that did not run after me or pressurized on doing anything. That was Green Van Lines, one of the top-notch brands in the arena of moving industry. Green Van Lines knows it very well how to comfort you as well as how to make you feel free from tension. The representatives who met me during my move were friendly and wonderful. They managed everything in a smoother and easier way. They are expert in this field. I completely relied on them. I gained a lot by attaching credence to their adroit performance. When I was getting shifted from Texas, I did not have enough experience over any sort of move. Therefore, I had no option opened ahead of me but to rely on my moving company. Green Van Lines fellows played their role very well. They did not allow me to ponder over the process of relocation for a single moment. I was highly pleased on them. I spent the time with my cronies in long drive during my move. Having returned home, I saw that the entire program of relocation was done at ease. Yes, it was just like a story but it was true. Green Van Lines guys shifted everything with utmost care and kept everything in proper place in my new condominium. Not only that, they also decorated my new condominium beautifully. They made my new residence clean after the move. They even did not charge anything extra for that. What can be expected more from a moving company. They are professional but they always prioritize the need of clients. That is why they have become the most client-friendly brand. Their team-work was very commendable. If I praise them, that is not sufficient for them. Therefore, I have decided to write a review with a view to recommending them to one and all. It is my duty to shower encomiums on them because I got a marvelous service from them.Really a great job done by them.
As a single mom, it can be nerve-racking trying to find a company you can trust. I knew there was no way I could move us, but I really dreaded the idea of finding movers. When I saw the advertisement for VMA on Honor Courage Commitment, they weren’t even ‘open’ yet, so there were no reviews or comments. All my common sense said I would have to be crazy to use a brand new company to move us, but after talking to two other companies, my mind was still on VMA. Maybe it is because 4 or my 6 closest friends are veterans, and I know their character. Maybe it is because it was a God-thing. I don’t know. All I know is from the very beginning, I felt comfortable. When the closing dates for the house changed, they rolled with it and assured me everything would be fine, and really, at that moment, I needed someone who knew what they were doing to tell me it would be fine. When the kids caught a virus and we had to reschedule again, they rolled with it. The day of the move the atmosphere was so peaceful, the kids and I lay on the bedroom floor after they moved the furniture out and took a nap. I could give a list of how they went above and beyond being simply movers, like unhooking the appliances I couldn’t do, teaching me exactly what to get and how to fix the washing machine hoses and the dryer vent and making sure I understood by having me repeat it back to them. One of the most precious moments was when one of the men told me about losing his dad and how much compassion he felt for my son whose dad had died. It was a lot more like having family come over and help us move than a company. I still don’t see VMA as a company. I see them as amazing people who are answers to my prayers, and if I move again, I won’t call two other companies. I won’t call any other companies. VMA will be my only phone call.
Choosing Green Van Lines was the best decision I have ever made. Just more than happy with the experience I had with Green Van Lines. Right from offering an estimated quote to packing, loading, unloading – everything was well operated. On the day of my move the crew members with a spacious truck arrived right on time. The movers were thorough professionals and worked really hard all day long. It took them nearly 6 hours or so which may seem like a long time, but I found that some of our previous moves have taken probably more than what Green Van Lines took. The movers in question were all very friendly, cordial all day long. They seemed to have truly enjoyed their jobs. During my move, I chatted with them and also shared some of my memorable moments with them. They also cracked funny jokes with me and eased out my tension. I enjoyed all the moments with Green Van Lines. What more could I ask for from a top-notch company like Green Van Lines. Not for once they did lose their patience. Not once did anyone say like it’s a serious issue. Be it taping up of boxes again to ensure security, taking doors off the hinges or re-assembling something in a nice manner. Always an attitude of ‘ not a problem’ was evident from their face. Well, talking about ensuring proper safety and security, I must say Green Van Lines took all the necessary measures to make sure that not a single item gets broken. Apart from this they also ensured that no scratch or scuff is seen on any of the walls or doors while moving out of the rented house or the new apartment we moved in to. The movers were just thorough professionals and I recommend you to hire them for any moving needs. Well, what more could I ask for? I recommend you to hire Green Van Lines for any future moving needs.
What can you say about Veterans Moving America, LLC ??? Nothing if you have never used them. But I can. I found them to be a highly rated and respected company that had competitive rates and employed men like Austin, Arthur and Mike (I called him Big Mike) who provided me with on-time service, a clean van and a care free move that is very rare in the moving industry. From the moment they introduced themselves I knew I had a crew who were highly experienced, polite and courteous that did not flinch at any request I had. What can I say about Veterans Moving America, LLC??? I was raised in the moving industry and spent over 28 years full time serving the public. I have held every position such as packer, van helper, warehouse helper and manager, driver, dispatcher, operations manager, salesman, sales manager and vice president with major van lines agents such as Global Van Lines, United Van Lines and Allied Van Lines. Trust me. I know a lot about the moving business. Do yourself a favor and call these folks, it will be your best move yet because they do “Make It Easy”.
My sister stays in Texas. She moved to California last year. She was quite worried of her relocation. Since she was in hurry on account of her business purpose, she got quite baffled and started making haste with whatever she was planning. She was not able to make a way out from her hectic schedule. Eventually, she thought for a while with patience and readily decided to approach to Green Van Lines for the entire program of her residential relocation. During the period when my sister moved to California, I was present there and watched how Green Van Lines guys did everything with perfection. They were adroit in keeping abreast with time and consequently it was possible for them to accomplish everything in accordance with their schedule. All the belongings were shifted to the desired destination carefully in roomy vehicles. I was highly moved by their excellent behavior and congeniality to clients as well.
I am an environmental activist by profession. I had an inclination to opt for an ideal green mover who could help me have a safe move adhering to the green standards. I came to know about Green Van Lines while browsing through the internet. I made a thorough research on the pursuits of several moving companies. Ultimately, I found Green Van Lines as the one and only company which carries out necessary eco-friendly practices during any sort of relocation. Having been impressed by them, I gave them a buzz. An appointment was fixed. They took the onus of my move to the new residence. Everything was done with care and safety. During relocation, I noticed a lot of things. All the vehicles used by them did not cause pollution. The wrappers, green crates, blankets which were used for move were cent percent recyclable. I would like to recommend them to everyone i know.
Just few days before our move from Texas to Utah, I made a thorough research online in finding out an ideal moving company. I received several price quotes from several companies. Ultimately, I decided to opt for Green Van Lines. I was quite bewildered at the incipient stage of the move but in the course of time I came to realize that I had made a right choice by having resort to Green Van Lines. Their excellence is known to one and all. What can I say about them? They always prioritize clients to their profit unlike other moving companies. Therefore, Green Van Lines has been able to secure one of the top-notch ranks among the movers. I was just fond of their friendly approach. They packed and delivered and unpacked all my items with utmost sincerity. Well, I am satisfied to the core. Friends, there is nothing wrong if you trust Green Van Lines with closed eyes.
Oh God! what a horrible moving experience i had while i was on my maiden move few years back. Total messed up situation! I had to withstand great strain for the move because my mover was not sincere enough and I was not satisfied with their service. Having suffered a lot, I decided to opt for a professional and responsible mover. Later, when I got shifted to California after a couple of years, I resorted to Green Van Lines. I was utterly pleased with the service of Green Van Lines. Not only that, the price quoted by them was within my affordability. Moreover, they were congenial and always dedicated to serve people in a better way. Yes, that should be the characteristic of an ideal mover. From then on, I have realized why people trust them so blindly. They deserve it. I have decided that if I relocate anywhere I will surely choose Green Van Lines.
I opted for Green Van Lines while storing my items under their custody. At first, they prepared a list of items which were scheduled to be stored. Thereafter, the charges were calculated. The representative of Green Van Lines came to my residence and estimated the expenditure. Having done the estimation, he just left out. I wanted to get more confirmed. So, on the next day, I went to their office for further inquiry about the expenditure. I got all the necessary information repeatedly and compared those with the information obtained earlier from the person who came for estimation. Yes, both the estimations were same. I got satisfied with them. They did not charge more. Green Van Lines charges everything in a straightforward way. No hidden charge was there. Indeed a trust-worthy moving company who could be relied upon.
Every move is different, so it's vital to choose a moving company that's right for you. The first consideration you should make when hiring these professionals is how far you're moving.
Depending on the moving company, local moves are typically anywhere between one and 100 miles within the same state. Local moves are less complicated to plan, both for you and the movers you decide to hire. They're typically priced based on how much you need to move, how many movers the company plans to provide and how long the job is estimated to take.
Long-Distance and Interstate Moves
Even if you're staying in the same state, you may still technically be planning a long-distance move - though the exact mileage varies by moving company, these are typically moves that are more than 50 to 100 miles long or across state or country lines. In fact, even if you're moving within the same state but you have to go through another state or country first, it's likely considered an interstate move, rather than a local one. That's because the movers are technically transferring items between state lines, which means they'll be responsible for having the correct licensing and insurance in place.
Long-distance moves are much more complicated to plan, typically requiring you to pay numerous extra expenses for everything from shipping items to renting storage space.
Are you making a big move and trying to figure out exactly how much you should plan to spend? Or are you on a tight budget and looking to hire a mover who can keep costs low? Either way, it's important to understand how exactly moving companies charge their customers.
As mentioned above, for local moves, companies will charge based on the number of movers they provide and the amount of time they'll need to spend on the project. Generally, the more rooms in your apartment or house, the more movers and time you can expect to be charged for. The price of long-distance or interstate moves, on the other hand, will be based on the amount of belongings you have - and more specifically the weight of those belongings. The heavier the boxes or items you're shipping across state or country lines, the more expensive your move will be.
Moving costs will vary greatly, depending on where you are. Local moves in a small town in the Midwest will be much less expensive than comparable moves in New York City. For that reason, it's best to do some research about the going rates in your area.
No matter what type of move you're making, you can reach out to prospective moving companies for estimates - this is the best way to determine how expensive your move will be based on where you live and what services you're looking for. Typically, the moving company will send someone to your home who will do a walk through of each room, making note of the furniture, valuables and other belongings in each one. Then, he or she will provide an estimate. The exact amount you pay may, however, be different from the amount declared in the estimate. That's where the type of contract comes in.
Nonbinding vs. Binding Contracts
For any move, a company will ask you to sign a contract. It's crucial to know exactly what type of contract you're signing, though, to understand how much you can expect to pay. In basic terms, there are two types of moving contracts: binding and nonbinding. Binding, as well as binding not-to-exceed, contracts are the most preferable for people hiring movers. These list an estimated price the moving company cannot charge more than. So, even if your local move takes an hour longer or your belongings are heavier than expected for an interstate move, you're still only responsible for paying a fixed amount.
Nonbinding contracts, on the other hand, have no fixed final number. Instead, they list a rate - by the hour or by the pound/kilo - and you're responsible for paying exactly how much your move costs in those terms.
Keep in mind that movers provide a variety of services, many of which you may not require. These can affect how expensive your move will be. For example, a full-service move that includes packing and unpacking will be pricier than a local move that only includes loading the truck, driving it to the new home and unloading it.
For any move, there may be extra costs beyond the typical services offered. If you're asking your movers to transport large, hard-to-move items, like pianos, for instance, you'll likely pay an extra fee. Likewise, if your apartment building doesn't have an elevator or the truck has to be parked far from your home, you may be charged extra. Ask about these potential expenses when signing your contract.
Don't rush through the process of hiring a moving company. Make sure the movers you hire are dependable, reputable and the right fit for your needs.
Look for Reviews and Recommendations
When hiring movers, it's a good idea to both look at reviews online and ask your friends and family members for recommendations. Personal endorsements will go a long way toward helping you determine whether you can expect the company to do a quick and professional job.
Choose Top Candidates
As you're vetting candidates through reviews and recommendations, narrow your selection to three or four top options. Make sure the companies offer the type of move you're looking for, whether it's interstate or local. These three or four companies are who you'll contact for estimates.
Don't Be Afraid to Ask Questions
After receiving estimates, you'll have a better idea which companies are within your budget. However, this isn't the only factor you should use when choosing movers, especially for more complicated jobs. In fact, you may be willing to pay a little more to hire quality movers who can ensure the safety of your belongings. Don't be afraid to call these companies and ask questions.
During the hiring process, you want to make sure of three things: First, that the moving company is reputable and has the proper licensing and insurance. Second, that the movers are dependable, professional and committed to doing the job correctly. Finally, that the estimate provided is binding and that you're aware of any potential excess costs. With these factors in mind, here are some of the most important questions to ask a moving company:
As with any service profession, there are certain moving companies - though they are few and far between - that aren't reputable or that will try to take advantage of you. It's important to be able to recognize a scam if you come across one.
Call the FMCSA
For long-distance or interstate moves, you can easily check that companies have the proper licensing and insurance, which is a clear indication that they're legitimate. All interstate moving companies must be registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, so call 888-368-7238 to confirm the licenses, insurance and credentials of the movers you're considering. The FMCSA can also tell you if any complaints have been filed against a particular moving company.
Check with the American Moving and Storage Association
For both local and long-distance moving companies, AMSA is another good place to check out a company's legitimacy. Moving companies aren't required to be an AMSA member, but the ones that are have committed to the association's rules and regulations, which protect both the companies and the consumers hiring them. If a company isn't an AMSA member, that doesn't mean it isn't reputable, but an AMSA membership is a clear indication of legitimacy.
One of the most common fears people face when moving to a new home is that something they own will be lost or damaged in the process. While no company will be able to guarantee everything arrives safely, there are steps you can take to make damage less likely.
Pack and Transport Your Valuables
If you have items that are emotionally or financially valuable to you, do your best to pack and move them yourself. Keep jewelry, expensive artwork, inherited valuables and even costly electronics in your own car - that way you'll have complete control over their safety at all times.
Choose a Moving Company That Plans Ahead
Moving companies can better keep your belongings safe when the movers plan ahead. What does this mean? Many companies take extra time to measure doorways, halls and stairways to find the safest route in and out of your home. They should also provide furniture blankets, covers and moving pads to keep both your home and your belongings free of scratches or other damage.
Keep the Moving Area Safe
There are some things you can control on moving day and some things you simply can't, such as the weather. If you're moving on a snowy, icy or rainy day, keeping all of your paths, stairways and walkways clear and dry is crucial. This can help protect both the movers and the large items they're carrying to and from the truck.
The subject of tipping is relatively unclear when it comes to movers. However, there is a general rule of thumb that most people in the industry agree on: Tip your movers if they've done a good job and you think a tip is warranted.
Generally, a 5 percent tip is considered appropriate, though some people recommend paying $20 per day, per mover for basic, local moves. However, almost everyone agrees you should first do a quick walk-through of your home to check for any damage to your furniture or belongings and to make sure everything is where you'd like it to be.
If you do decide to give a tip, divide it evenly and give money to each individual, rather than giving the entire sum to the head mover and expecting it to be doled out equally. One type of tip to avoid: alcohol. It's usually illegal for movers to have bottles of alcohol in the truck or van, so tipping a bottle of wine or liquor could get them into trouble.
