No matter whether an accident involved a freshly licensed teen or an experienced driver, knowing what to do (or not do) is essential to bouncing back.
All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
It’s time to bring long sleeves and long pants out of storage, prep your home and car, and contact the cool weather home/yard contractors.
First, let me tell you about me. I'm a business teacher - female and petite - and I have a huge "don't you dare take advantage of me" complex. Today was my first experience with Tropical Permance and it though the circumstance was bad - I'm soooo GLAD to have met this business. Let me tell you why.... This morning, I brought my car to Meineke Weston to have my oil and fuel filter changed. They called me back with a $2000 repair estimate. They said that my power steering was squirting oil everywhere... My husband was convinced they wouldn't lie to him but he forgets.... Last summer, we had the power steering replaced by a guy who specialized in Mercedes. So after arguing with my husband, I told NO - I WANT A SECOND OPINION!!! This is where Tropical Performance comes in. I picked up the car and asked my friend if he would bring me to his mechanic to get my second opinion. We drove straight to Tropical Performance. They had a lot of cars in the shop, but Erin said they'd take a look. I mentioned to her that Meineke said that I had a bad power steering and I'm a teacher in Miami (30 miles away) I'd hate to drive a dangerous car. The way Meineke explained it, it was really bad.... So Erin asked the mechanic to put it up on a lift right away - they fit me in (go figure...) - looked at it and came back to tell me that they can't find a leak. What they see is old thrown everywhere, but that it doesn't look like old caked on oil. And... if it was power steering fluid, it would be RED oil. Then, I handed them the repair estimate from Meineke (totaling $2000). You should have seen Erin's face. I could tell that she didn't want to accuse anyone of anything, but she went back to the mechanic to check all the parts that were supposed to be bad according to the Meineke estimate. She came back and told me that they couldn't find anything. IMAGINE THAT!!! So the mechanic cleaned up my car engine and asked me to come back Monday afternoon when Mike - the master mechanic - can check to see if it leaks over the weekend. Total charge = $0 THEY ARE GOOD PEOPLE! They could have totally charged me for their time - nothing! In fact, they asked me to come in for a check up and to meet the owner.... SUPER WOW!!!
"I own a 2006 Mercedes Benz 500 CLK and have had it serviced and mechanical work performed on it at numerous “high end specialty shops” throughout Palm Beach, Broward, & Dade counties only to be left with outrageous bills that weren’t even close to my original quotes and either did not fix the problem or had to be brought back within a year or 2 to be addressed again. Therefore, you can imagine my angst and hesitation when I needed to find another repair shop. The highest rated shop I found on line was the auto repair lady Angela @ ABS Exotic repairs. I conducted my on line info. for first time clients and received an email w/in 10 minutes. Wow that was quick. We shared a few emails to clarify my needs and then she called to confirm my appointment and if I would I need a rental car. I showed up for my initial assessment and she performed a thorough exterior inspection pointing out to me some areas that needed to be addressed and at the same time making sure that I was the right customer for her. LOL. She knows her cars. To summarize, she is a straight shooter with old business acumen. Offering only parts and service that she can in all good conscience put her integrity behind. She stayed within budget, delivered services on time, showed great attentional to detail and followed up with a phone call to confirm my satisfaction. Oh don’t get me wrong she’s a proud and passionate character but my type of character. She has found a lifelong client that would refer her services without hesitation."
After going to Dent Master Inc.'s website, 9which gives very good directions), I decided to call Paul (as the web site says), and made an appointment for that very same day. I had 1 dent about the size of a salad plate and 2 smaller dents about the size of a nickel, along with couple of scratches. My car came out Beautiful !! You couldn't tell there was ever any damage. He even fixed a few other scratches for me at no charge. I waited a little more than an hour, in a clean air conditioned office, on a comfortable couch, and watched TV while my car was worked on, in a very clean garage. (When was the last time you saw a clean garage)? I paid what I think is a reasonable price. Compared to the estimates I got from body shops, this was a great deal. This 'Paintless Dent Removal' process is really something !! I got a free estimate, got great work done in a timely matter, paid a fair price, and was treated as a valued customer. I couldn't be happier. I'm even going to bring my car back to them for a complete detail and fix-up before my lease return. I highly recommend Dent Master to everyone.
I built my first engine, a 324 cu. inch Olds in 1959, and a whole bunch of engines since. then. This company recently rebuilt my 217,500 mile and blown 5.7 litre GMC V8, and they used the care and quality of performance I did when doing my own work . They pride themselves on doing a first class job,on time, and they delivered. It is an open door shop, and I had plenty of opportunity to see the work in progress. Does it get any better than that? The engine runs extremely well, and the cost was half what several other shops quoted for their crate engines which had little more warranty at double the cost. Advance delivered. That is why they have been in this business for so many years. As a practicing lawyer, my nature is to look for the worst before moving into something. Where Advance is concerned, there is no worst, and the court records are conspicuous with a complete absence of this company as a defendant. That yells, not speaks, very highly of the commitment ownership has to keeping a customer satisfied. I sure am. Bill Beamer, Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.
I had 2 dents in my car with a few scratches. One dent was half dollar size on my door and the other was much bigger in the corner of my bumper. I called and spoke to a very nice gentleman named Paul, (turns out he's the owner). I made an appointment for the next day, for my free estimate. He gave me great simple directions and it was very easy to find. When I got there he looked at the car right away, gave me a price, and said he could do it that day. I waited in a clean, air-conditioned office with a TV. The area he works on the cars is also very clean. I have never seen any auto repair shop so clean. It took just over an hour to fix my car and he even cleaned up some other scratch and scuff marks I had. All in all, I got great work done fast and professional, for a very reasonable price. Especially when compared to an estimate I got from an auto body shop. This paintless dent repair 'stuff ' is really great. When my lease is up, I will be taking my car back to Paul to fix/clean up before I turn it in. I will most definitely recommend Dent Master to everyone.
I had an electrical issue with my car revently... For almost 3mth after taking it to a supposedly "reputable" dealership no one there could figure out the issue with my car. I racked up a bill of $3514.25 from the "reputable" dealership and the issue still was unsolved, naturally, i was upset and wanted to junk my car that i loved so well..Luckily for me, a coworker overheard me complaining about the issue with my car and recommended me to Alexander Automotive. From the moment i went there with my car, Bob was very nice to me..He listened to my problem and assured me that i would be in good hands. It didnt take long for their mechanic to diagnose my car the staff there seemed to genuinely care. My car issues was fixed within the alloted time as they said. Now im glad to say i have NO electrical issues. I was so pleased with the service, that currently my mom, step dad and twin brother all take our cars there whenever we have any issues. Reliable, honest and efficient ...great service..
I just wanted to take a moment and express my gratitude to Angela and Staff at ABS Exotic Repair. I moved two years ago to Ft Lauderdale and as anyone can identify, trying to find a specialist in auto repair that you feel comfortable with is no easy challenge in a new city. I was recommended by a friend to ABS Exotic Repair as my 2004 325ci BMW was in need of servicing. Upon arrival I was greeted by Angela who gave me an introduction to her services and estimate procedures, I immediately felt comfortable and left my car for her to inspect. Later that day I received a detailed estimate on the repairs needed for my car and I approved the work. Since this day I have without hesitation brought my BMW to ABS exotic repair for any servicing needed no matter how big or small the job. I highly recommend this facility to anyone in need auto repair that wants the peace of mind when they drop off their vehicle that the job will be completed with perfection!
This is the only repair shop in which the car comes out repaired well, with a great price and you want to kiss the Chief Mechanic for doing such an incredible job. Well in this case you would kiss Lady Angela, the owner of ABS. We have three older BMW’s each of which we treasure. One of them developed a problem that none of the shops near me could fix. I brought it to ABS and it was diagnosed and fixed. The car will go on as will my heart (theme from the Titanic) but the feeling is genuine. When Angela touches your car, it comes back to life no matter what the problem is. And she figures out a way to make sure that the fix makes sense economically. She is honest, smart, and very knowledgeable. While our office is almost 50 miles from ABS, those miles don’t matter when you know you car will be repaired with integrity. We highly recommend her service. It is just amazing.
I spent six months researching to buy my first Porsche... I finally found one 900 miles away... With my Porsche Enthusiast handbook I booked a flight to Florida. I needed a pre-purchase inspection so I googled independent shops in Miami, Fl area... After countless calls to shops that didn't answer the phone or return calls, I called Angela at ABS Exotic Repair... After a long conversation, I decided to trade in the airline tickets and have Angela handle the entire transaction... best decision. She found an axel issue, had the seller cover the costs and fixed it in her shop... I would best describe ABS Exotic Repair as a classic garage... all the guys working there drive the same cars that they work on... it's more than a paycheck to them, and Angela really cares that you get the best car you can afford. my biggest problem is fitting my golf clubs into my classic 911 Carrera 4...
I was recommended PB's by a couple of people who know more about engines and cars than I do. Brought in my newly acquired great price AS IS after test drive 99 Nissan Pathfinder LE (LE: Luxury Edition! Whaaat?) I knew going in it may have some issues and the main one was the idle was sticking. Dropped it off to Pauly's nondescript shop when he opened in the morning and I had it by the end of the day at a non-pull-my-heart-through-my-throat price. Pauly is as a no-bones-about-it mechanic as you would hope for nowadays. He found out another sensor may need to be replaced but in his opinion which at this point I trust wholeheartedly, can be replaced later. I'm going to schedule a rear shock replacement soon with PB. I live in Dade county but I work in Broward, right now I can say he's worth the ride and the planning to come here on my day off. Did this review help you?
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
