Overall

Monday July 8th 2013, my Rhodesian Ridgeback was diagnosed with dermoid sinus by a vet in Denver. Dermoid sinus is a very rare, serious genetic skin disorder developed in the embryotic stage and primarily Ridgebacks. If the dermoid goes unnoticed it can abscess. Until surgery is performed, it is difficult to know if the sinus terminates in a "blind sac" that is less dangerous to remove or if it is connected to the spinal cord.

A Ridgeback breeder north of Denver recommended Dr. Steyn. She performed the surgery multiple times and on puppies as early as 5 days old. Izzy is 8 months which can mean a more complicated surgery because they continue to grow. After reading a lot devastating information on the web Monday night– I called Dr Steyn’s office at 8am Tuesday morning. Dr. Steyn was able to get Izzy in at 6:30 the same evening.

Dr. Steyn was incredible. She was confident she could remove the dermoid. The comfort I felt hearing those words at the moment and time were unspeakable. Once I digested Izzy was having surgery the next morning, Dr. Steyn explained she concerned about Izzy’s total health not just the dermoid. She noticed a discharge from Izzy’s vulva. Unfortunately, Izzy also had an inverted vulva which was diagnosed when she was spayed. The vet did not perform the surgery and suggested when Izzy was a year old going to a specialist. Dr Steyn suggested while removing the dermoid to also perform vulvaplasty to avoid any future problems with UTI and vaginitis.

Dr. Steyn scheduled the surgery for 7am the following day! Izzy had the best possible outcome with the dermoid and vulvaplasty. The end of the tube within the dermoid was closed. When Dr. Steyn tested for spinal fluid it came up negative and was able to remove the entire dermoid.

Other information regarding Dr Steyn’s practice is unheard of in any of the veterinary practices I have experienced over the past 20 years of owning a dog. She believes in total transparency of her practice. Her vet assistants will give you a tour of the entire clinic which includes the examination room, rehab room, OR, day care and pool area where you can bring your dog to learn how to swim and use for exercise. Every door has two way glass so you can see every examination room. She allowed me to watch while she performed Izzy’s surgeries and be present as Izzy came out of the anesthesia.

I will make the 60 mile drive to Ft Collins to see Dr Steyn for Izzy’s yearly wellness exams. She is the only vet I will entrust with the health of my dog. There are no words that truly express my gratitude for Dr. Steyn and her entire staff. They are refreshingly unique in the world veterinary practices.

You can't get better care any ...

You can't get better care any where else in the Larimer County area for your pets than at Advanced Animal Care of Colorado. Everyone, Dr. Heather Steyn and her entire staff, the staff in the day care, groomers, techs (I do mean everyone), is not only knowledgable and well trained (aka: brilliant) they are extremely caring, compassionate, patient and in tune to every possible need of the client (both pet and parent).

The ability to have everything in one place (therapy, daycare, grooming, medical, to include lab work and surgery) makes it easy on us as well as our dogs. I can't express enough how caring everyone is and personable.

it's fun to "just be there" because you feel as though you and your pet are important and matter. Both my dogs are comfortable and happy to be there and I honestly believe they feel safe and trusting as well.

One of our dogs just had a situation where he required urgent surgery. Both he AND us were comfortable and calm and felt 100% trust that the decisions and the choices made were the right ones and we just felt as thought we and our dog were in good hands. The right hands.

I am thankful we have them in our corner. it's totally one less thing in life to worry about. This is where we need our pets to be taken care of. When we are there, it feels like home. And our dogs are happy. It is amazing, there just isn't any other place like it.

We took our dog to the Fort Co...

We took our dog to the Fort Collins Dog Club for a year before they moved to the new location. We really liked the new facility and the swimming pool for our dog! The only problem we had was that our dog got kennel cough after the second visit. We weren't sure if it was because it was the first several weeks the daycare was open and they hadn't had time to check everyone's updated shot records. We will probably take our dog back but we're holding off for a little while. The staff was extremely friendly though and hopefully the kennel cough was just a fluke!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention - we have not had any other cases of kennel cough that we are aware of. The hospital is very diligent about this! If you ever see any concerns - we would love to know right away! Regards, Dr Steyn

After visiting this location you will never want to go anywhere else! Not only is the facility absolutely amazing and beautiful, but the staff is wonderful and has everything you could possibly think of for your pet! My dogs go to the doggie day care and have swim time. I know they are constantly monitored and are exhausted when they get home. They provide my pets with the entertainment and exercise that I can not do when working over time. You will never have to worry or ever have a concern with leaving your pets with Dr. Steyn! If you have any questions or doubt about this facility go and take a tour, all your questions will be answered and you will be left speechless!!

Great state-of-the-art hospita...

Great state-of-the-art hospital run by one of the best veterinarians in the state. Dr. Steyn is a superb diagnostician and deeply cares about each animal she treats, and she remembers each and every name. Therapy and exercise swimming plus a play for boarding dogs, heated cages and "skyboxes" for boarding cats. The staff is equally excellent and organized, and electronic records enables you to conduct routine business online if you'd like. Easy access and parking, too.

I have followed Dr Steyn where ever she has been over the years but I was beyond thrilled to follow her to her new hospital. It is state of the art everything. The commitment to knowledge and care is top notch and is not just limited to Dr Steyn but includes her entire staff. I believe she is one of the top vets in the country.

I just started at this hospital as a new client and was amazed at the service we received. I have been a dog owner my whole life and have known many vets but this place was like nothing I had ever seen. The staff and the vet cared about my dog's comfort, was very up front and open about everything that needed to be done and treated me with warmth and caring. I dare say, this will be the only vet we go to from here on out! The new facility is beautiful and clean and they have everything available that any pet owner could need.
