Overall

The people at this facility are so fantastic and caring, now I fully understand why, as so are most people who take advantage of you. This being said I went to Texas Health Emergency Room because I was in great pain and running a temp of 103-104 that was not responding well to fever reducers. I knew I had a double ear infection (dealt with these my whole life, am soon to turn 50) And I also was fairly certain there was a sinus infection as my head was completely clogged and I could not get my ears to pop. I went because it was literally across the street and very close to home. I knew our deductible had not been met and I would have money out of pocket. Upon going in I was given paperwork to fill out, and charged the $300 for walking in the door. I was taken back immediately as I was the only one there, they were very kind and worked quickly getting info, The Dr came in asked a couple questions, looked up my nose and at my ears. And said I indeed had a double infection of my ears and in sinuses. This was literally a few minute exam and visit, he then left the room, and I was given a shot and prescription. I left happy feeling I had painlessly went and had been taken care of. This whole thing from walking in-to walking out was literally 15-20 mins. I went and took meds as per the prescription but was getting zero relief and the antibiotic was done, so I returned. Again I was taken back immediately. This time the Dr sat and spoke about the ear popping issue ( they wouldn't unclog), but again no tests, no procedures, just talk and looking at nose and ears. I again paid my $300. Upon leaving and again was in and out with in 20 minutes. No tests or procedures done. I was given a different antibiotic this visit. And Then the bills started arriving.... my husband and I were dumbfounded. This place is a scam, its highway robbery, they charge $1050.00 just for the room. Inflated bills is a gross understatement. $2500.00 is our cost, after insurance. No tests or procedures!

Overall

$1,211 to walk in the door, $757 for lab draws and IV fluids. Separate bill for $636 Dr. Lewis eval and treat. Missed second bill in mail so they quickly sent my file to collection, dinging my credit for minuscule amount less than $100.

Overall

3 weeks ago my wife was having severe lower back pain, after 2 days with the pain not going away she asked me to take her to the doctor on a Saturday afternoon, her primary doctor was closed for the weekend, so I suggested we go to First Choice Emergency room because it was not life threatening and "we though" it would be less expensive the the ER at Presbyterian in Flower Mound or Lewisville Hospital. We received the bill today and it was a total of $10,000+ dollars leaving us with a portion to pay out of pocket $3200+ after our insurance company made payments. My wife had a lower back CT Scan performed and they gave her a shot of steroids to lower the inflammation. It was just a sciatic nerve pain. She was in there less than an hour and that was $10,000+- that is outrageous. The staff was friendly and the wait time was almost nothing- however, not even the delivery of our children has cost so much!

Overall

I suffered an attack of vertigo around 9 pm one evening. Paramedics suggested that I be seen by a doctor, and First Choice was close. They ran a number of tests, and ordered an ambulance to take me to the hospital for an MRI, which I declined. I later received a bill for over $6,400, and had to fight with United Healthcare for over a year, involving my employer and a government agency, before UHC paid anything on the bill because it was so over-the-top.

Sadly it's not practical to shop for the best healthcare provider in an emergency situation, but First Choice would definitely be my last choice.

DO NOT GO to First Choice Emer...

DO NOT GO to First Choice Emergency Room in Flower Mound! They are NOT upfront about their charges...they'll just "bill you later." My daughter and I made the mistake of going here when we were sick on a Sunday and now we owe them THOUSANDS of dollars. I've been making consistant monthly payments on the balance because I simply don't have the entire amount. They've been calling and harrassing me at school because the payments aren't high enough for their tastes. I've told them I'm a teacher and that's all I can pay each month, but they're SENDING ME TO COLLECTION ANYWAY!

Thank you, First Choice, for your terrible treatment. I'll tell everyone I know that you're not worth it. I should have stayed home on a work day and seen my regular doctor. It would have been cheaper to pay a substitute teacher out of my pocket than what these people have put me through.

My daughter hurt her foot and ...

My daughter hurt her foot and we wanted to go somewhere where she could have an x-ray if needed. I found the listing for the First health er on the internet. There were no other patients waiting when we got there and we were escorted back in a few minutes to be evaluated. The problem is the doctor never examined her foot. The nurse was very sweet and concerned as was the x-ray tech. The doctor just told my daughter the were no breaks and gave 2 kinds of pain meds. She told her it was likely a torn ligament, a diagnosis from across the room. Never even touched or examined the foot. I found that slightly disturbing from an Emergency room. An X-ray and then drugs. I am a dermatology nurse and have seen alot of cellulitis when something is red and swollen like her foot was. no antibiotics were given. The doctor might have considered this had she examined the foot.
