Primary Care
A prescription or referral is not required to see a physical therapist in the state of Virginia for your initial visit. Appointments can be made anytime. However, there are three things to consider based on your situation. First, you can call for a 15-minute free screening. Your therapist will give an examination and tell you if physical therapy is right for you. At that same time, our office staff will let you know if your insurance will cover the treatments. Second, if your health insurance policy requires a referral from your primary care physician for outside services, like physical therapy, request that referral prior to treatment to avoid personal responsibility for incurred charges. Third, if you are receiving physician’s care for the same condition, we will need to notify your primary care physician within 14 days.
Emergency Care
Specialties: Katie has extensive knowledge of taping different body parts as well as many different kinds of taping techniques and materials. She has unique experience in dealing with acute emergency care with her history at ESPN Disney Wide World of Sports as well as her experience working at an all boys boarding school. Katie also loves working with geriatrics as well as athletes and is always excited to learn new things and techniques to make her a better athletic trainer.

Specialties: Julia is passionate about helping individuals of all ages with orthopedic injuries and post-op rehabilitation. She has had the experience of 3 clinical rotations working alongside clinical instructors who are board accredited orthopedic certified specialists. As an avid long distance runner, Julia has a special interest in analyzing running mechanics, and is able to utilize analysis software during running evaluations. She also completed additional training where she worked with a board certified women’s health specialist gaining experience with patients who have pregnancy related low back pain, urinary incontinence, pelvic floor dysfunctions, and diastasis recti.

Cancer Care
Pain management is an important aspect of cancer care, as many patients experience pain associated with treatment. For example, patients who have undergone breast cancer surgery may experience pain due to scar tissue, tightness in the chest or arm, or weakness. Physical therapy can help manage pain and improve mobility by using techniques such as massage, joint mobilization, and stretching exercises to address tightness in the chest and arm.

Education: Phillip is a 2012 Duke University graduate with his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. He completed his undergraduate work in 2009 at University of Tulsa in Tulsa, OK with a degree in Exercise Sports Science and a minor in Psychology. She was particularly trained in evaluating patients with tendinopathy and fascia using ultrasound and treating them with Extracorporeal shock wave therapy. She also has experience working with cardiac patients post surgery and patients with neurological pathologies including balance disorders. Holly has strength in conducting clinical trial research, and find most up-to-date evidence based papers for recalcitrant cases.
Chemotherapy

Iontophoresis
Therapeutic Modalities – We consult the latest research to guide our use of therapeutic modalities. In the right conditions, your therapist will utilize Heat/Cold packs, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, iontophoresis, phonophoresis, cervical traction, or lumbar traction to further improve your recovery.
Radiation Therapy
Lymphedema is a condition that may occur after breast cancer surgery and radiation therapy if lymph nodes and vessels are removed or damaged. Lymphedema presents as a swelling in the affected limb, which may be noticed as a feeling of heaviness in the arm.

Neuro Rehabilitation
Specialties: Amanda has a strong interest and background in orthopedic injuries and long-term neuro rehabilitation. Her passion is to improve the long-term quality of life for patients and for the community as a whole. As a recreational marathoner, she understands the drive to be active for both body and mind. She is fluent in conversational Spanish, and welcomes the opportunity to treat patients that prefer to speak in Spanish.
Manual Therapy
The first step to successful rehabilitation and recovery is a complete evaluation. The physical therapist’s evaluation will include an examination of your muscles, test of your joints, and assessment of your injury or condition. At this time education about your condition and an initial plan of care will be given. Next comes hands on manual therapy. A Physical Therapist’s hands can mobilize tissue and joints to allow for a speedier, more complete recovery. You can also expect your therapist to prescribe a personalized exercise regime to be done in the clinic and at home. These exercises will help to restore your strength and function. The key to your complete and sustainable recovery is a team approach: the therapist, the assistant and you.
