Their sandwiches are phenomenal! The Meatball, the Italian I miss them now that I'm not in the neighborhood any longer.

So much for the good ole days

I have to be honest here, I love the IDEA of Bari, an old time place which still is family owned but you people are delusional. The line (okay 5 people whoa!) took twenty minutes to get a cold cut sandwich with pre sliced meat and tomatoes and lettuce from a cryovac bag--that means its NOT fresh gang!) Phones were ringing constantly because everyone was ordering for pickup! It's a cold cut sub --how long does it take folks? Keep in mind they have been doing this for decades right? I swear the stupid people in this town think if it takes forever it must be good. Wrong it means inefficient and dirty as my bread is sitting in bags on their filthy floor! Meanwhile what I witnessed were stressed out unpleasant customer service again and again. As I was waiting to pay for a freaking
""sangwich"" (a second line to wait ) the lady ringing up is snapping at a pregnant mother who left her cart under the counter (like you do everywhere) after spending 200.00 in there. The employee says ""Hey can you put that back where you found it sweetie."" I am a 20 year veteran of the food business and would fire an employee on the spot if they spoke to a customer like that but you morons think it's charming. Bet your second favorite place is the Weiner Circle which was shut down by the health dept for three months (oh but it was on the food network so it has to be good). Between this and the bears handing it to GBay I am ready to f-in move!

Best Italian Sub in town

The Place has been there for generations and has a old time feel to it. I have to have my Bari Sub fix at least every three weeks. Italian deli meats & Cheese's, Marinara, Olive oil, Vinegars,Homemade Italian Sausage. It's the first place i run to when I need to make a Antipasto platter for friends.

AUTHENTIC ITALIAN Bliss.......

I grew up in an Italian neighborhood and this place takes me back. This place is hands down THE BEST place for Sub sandwiches. Everything is always fresh and you just cannot beat the price. There is ALWAYS a line in there, but the service is excellent and fast. It is definately worth the wait. If you are in a hurry, call and order ahead. About 2 months ago, I bought a prime rib roast from the butcher. It was also the best that I have ever had ANYWHERE! Also, stop by next door to D'amato's Bakery. They use coal fired ovens to bake their bread and it is simply wonderful. 2 VERY AUTHENTIC Italian places still left in the City. I consider myself a very lucky patron of both...Keep up the good work guys!! Frank the butcher is wonderful!! Please don't ever change!!

Magnifico Bari

I am lucky enough to live across the street from Bari. That explains why I eat it on average of three times a week. I love their Italian subs, but I also like getting the meat from their butcher shop. The bread is from D'Amato's Bakery located right next door. The guys behind the counter are experts at making the sandwiches and butchering your favorite cuts of meat. The hot giardinara is what completes the Italian sub, but you won't be disappointed with the meatball or sausage sandwiches, either. Bari has some of the best sausages in Chicago. I prefer the Barese sausage to the classical Italian sausage. The Barese is made with garlic, herbs, and sheep's casing, while the Italian has fennel and pig casing. I recommend calling ahead with your order, or you could face a long (possible half hour) wait. Bari is one of the true gem's of Chicago.

Great Food and Prices

The subs are great and made right in front of you. The bread, meat, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes are always fresh. My favorite is the italian followed closely by the corned beef sub.
