Memorial weekend - Went to pay respects to Grandparents and an Uncle. Upon getting to the headstone we found it caked with mud that had been washed down from a higher area. We could tell from the height of the grass sprouts that this has been going on for a while. We went to the office and asked what the policy was in maintenance. The groundskeeper at the office informed me that the groundskeepers would replace cups as needed. I informed him of the condition of the site, he tried to find something that could help us take care of it as we did not know if other family members would be arriving this weekend. He suggested I phone the office and speak with them. We cleaned up the site.
Tues morning I spoke with the office representative who was pleasent on the phone. I told her of the situation. She said they would "check it out". I told her we already took care of the clean up, however new cup holders were needed. The representative said they would send someone to take care of that. I asked if it was up to the family to maintain around this area. Her response was that they will mow and run a weed eater around the stones, as well as set traps for gophers, but they do not have the personel to handle cleaning around the markers.
It's a shame. It use to be well kept. We did notice other markers in the same condition. Our family will now be monitoring the area and have advised friends.
