Overall

My daughter had 1 lesson with the owner and it was the worst, most degrading experience in her 6 years of riding! She had a night lesson on a 5 year old, "still pretty green" horse that was hot from the minute he came in to be tacked up. Once out in the poorly lit ring, he spooked at every shadow and at a small pony contained in a round pen at one end of the ring. She even allowed someone to enter the ring and lunge a pony in the middle of the ring while giving a lesson to my daughter and 2 other riders. The owner blamed every spook, bolt and poor behavior of the horse on my daughter, screaming at her in the ring. My daugter dismounted in an attempt to calm the horse and the owner came over and said "I'll take him," then finished the lesson ignoring my daughter. She even went over to discuss training with the girl lunging the pony in the ring. It was so bad that one of the other mounts became anxious making an odd growling noise and had to be calmed down. Not only is it upsetting to see my daughter torn to pieces and blamed for the reactions of a wound up, spooked horse, but knowing the danger she put all the riders and horses present in is quite upsetting.

Arundel Hill Farms at first gl...

Arundel Hill Farms at first glance appears to be the ideal farm from the pictures posted online. However, upon stepping foot on this farm, you will find your high opinions shattered. The premises are ill-kept: the barn is dirty and at times not kept to any sort of imaginable standard; the fields, paddocks, and grounds surrounding them are left to grow until they resemble their wild states; the outdoor riding ring has an ever-present pool of water at the far side, even if there hasn’t been rain in weeks; and the indoor riding ring has an incomplete felt footing (the felt was never incorporated into the sand beneath it), which is almost dangerous to ride in. Those pretty pictures of a cream colored barn in the spring time are there only to deceive. Aside from the dilapidated conditions, this farm is a money pit. The owner/trainer promises solid, quick results for both horses and riders, but has students who have been at elementary level in eventing for over two years, and has horses who are taught dressage via neck stretchers and side reins – needless to say, these horses do not use themselves properly. Her inability to keep any sort of consistency in her business dealings leads to confusion and frustration, with no remorse from her end of the bargain. As long as you keep dumping piles of money into her lesson programs, leases, boards, schoolings, and shows – including a very pricey trip to Aiken in the winter – she will keep offering her “help” in your riding career with her ineffective and incorrect training, and her dangerously green lesson/lease horses (besides two ponies who are in the process of being sold). Take your ambitions elsewhere, take your time elsewhere, and, most importantly, take your money elsewhere.
