It amazes me how GR gets such bad reviews. Have shot at many ranges and the Gun Room is a bit above average for an indoor facility. Possibly people get their ego's hurt because there is a prominent sign at the stating that if you do not act in a mature manner, you can not shoot there? All ranges enforce similar doctrine although they may not state it outright. As to the store, yes they are a bit overpriced. There is a fine selection of O/U, pump and auto shotguns. Their rifles are mainly bolt action types intended for hunting. They do not carry assault rifles which seems to infuriate some people, not me... A couple of times I have wanted a firearm which RC was out of but was in stock here for just a few bucks more. In those cases the GR got my business. I have always been treated courteously by the employees, possibly my positive attitude was returned in kind??? There is the old Winchester range which has limited gun sales and a nice simi-outdoor range. But RC, or the other places which have a large stock of firearms have no range whatsoever!!! disclosure: Am not an employee of the Gun Room nor can I even tell you who owns the place. Belong to a local gun club that is quite large and offers a variety of shooting venues. Have shoot handguns competitively at numerous ranges. Have taken quite a few classes and seminars, safety is always the paramount aim. Have never been thrown off a range for miss conduct. Public ranges are a dwindling resource. Appreciate them while they are still here!
My first time here was here great. I found this place at YP.com. Since I had never used a hand gun before, the staff was nice enough to show me how to use it, and off I went. It was fun, and oh boy, did I run out of ammo quick. And when my gun jammed they were happy to help me out. Next time I'll bring more ammo.

Ok just went back to this place after 1.5 years. I thought it would have changed, but no. The same unprofessional staff as before both range and retail store. Not sure why this place does not hire people who if don?t have good knowledge of guns (does not matter to most Americans, 66% of us own more than 3 guns) should at least have good customer service skills. Year and a half ago when I left this place I left it for the same reason poor customer service looks like they have not learned yet. Overall the range setup is good, since it has the targets you can manually set distance on other than that other ranges in the area have much better customer service and are much more professional. If a business claims to be a retail store it should have the same up keep (staff, customer service etc.) as all other retail businesses in the area regardless if you sell guns or car audio.
Some suggestions in case owner/management is reading:
-Instead of saying peoples names and not being able to pronounce them correctly and acting like you could careless how it is pronounced how about handing out customer numbers like auto shops and other business establishments do.
-Hire a more diverse staff (age, gender, civilian, x-military and ethnic).

I am new to the area and was looking for an indoor range. I read the reviews on this site and some othersbut wanted to see for myself. I went to The Gun Room and a few outdoor ranges as well as Cordova. I was impressed with The Gun Room facility but not with the staff or the condition of the rental guns, they are not well maintained. I liked Cordova. I ws also really surprised at the price of things in the store at The Gun Room but since I only recently moved to California I don't know if that is in line but the reviews all say they are overpriced. Is there a better place to purchase guns, rifles ammo etc? thanks jf

Not a friendly enviroment. To pricey as stated in other reviews but I am willing to pay a little more when a place is convneint and has good staff and good products but I have had nothing but trouble with the gun I bought. No one will back the product. When I went back after a week of owning the gun I was not treated the same as when I was spending money that's for sure!!! Basically I was told to bad! I ws referred to the manufacturer who said the store should back it.....well I finally had to spend dollars to get it fixed what a rip off!!! Buyer beware!!!

Hey Stephen who you friends with?? This is not a friendly great place to shoot or to purchase!!!!! They are rude and they act like know it all snobs with not as much knowledge as they think, overpriced and some of the behavior of the bosses and staff that I have witnessed is beyond unprofessional! Gun gods is who they think they are...My experience was bad with rude customer service and a I don't give a sh-t attitude. I wish I could say one thing nice, oh yeah it's a nice facility but that's all folks! I was going to make this my place to shoot and even encouraged friends to go there but when I was treated so poorly and then one of my friends had a similar experience I decided to look elsewhere for shooting and buying gun products. I really enjoy shooting and this would have been cool because it's indoor and close but it just is not an enjoyable place to go!!!! The facility does not make up for bad customer service and the arrogant attitudes!

Having personal safety uppermost in mind, I did not want to select just anywhere for expertise, practice skills and equipment to keep safe.
Due to the extraordinary care and expert advice of the Gun Room staff and management I am not only a happy customer, but also a far more prepared citizen when considering home and personal safety.
Even one of the owners of The Gun Room made special efforts to facilitate my learning not only the commonplace skills but also the reasonable thinking and discernment skills so important in responsible firearms handling.
The retail store is excellent and every penny I spent on equipment and supplies has been well invested. I do not expect great advice and seasoned wisdom to come to me for free. I expect a fair price for materials will be accompanied by insights seldom available in discount or online resources. The Gun Room has never disappointed me and sets a standard I applaud.
Their range is reasonably priced and kept very pleasant for my practice needs. I like the other clientele and notice that the range management carefully monitors us all to maintain a friendly and safe experience.
Oh, I wandered many weeks and months looking and listening in over a dozen local shops and ranges to conclude the search for the two best firearms resources.
The Gun Room in Elk Grove is a five-star site in my book!
I'm new to guns and wanted to buy a shotgun, when i saw a nice shotgun at a good price $350.00 I told them i'd take it. Then they brought me different shotgun and told me it was just as good. I listened to them and took the chinese made shotgun. The first time i shot the gun (inside the store to be exact) the barrel jumped off the gun,I asked them to give me a store credit for the broken shotgun. They refused and gave me a fake chinese phone number to call. I am never going to buy from them again!!!

Firearms here are 10-20 percent higher than anywhere else. Wouldnt be a big deal if the staff was helpful in anyway...
Range is nice, staff is always professional, however they do not take care of their rental pistols. I rented a SIG P229, and wondered why such a great reviewed pistol was shooting so terribly. I pulled the slide back, put my finger in there only to find my finger caked with residue. Like a thin layer of frosting.
