At the Edmond, OK dentistry office of Dr. John Polkinghorne, we focus every treatment plan on preventive dentistry and improved oral hygiene. Because it’s important to our team that we offer the best possible treatment for every patient, we ask that you set aside a little extra time for your initial visit. In most cases, we’re completely done with your appointment in less than two hours from the time you arrive. When you visit our office, you’ll begin treatment with a visit to our skilled dental hygienist. She will remove all the plaque and tartar buildup from your smile. Dr. Polkinghorne will then sit with you to discuss your oral and overall health history, review diagnostic x-rays, check your current restorations, complete an oral cancer screening, and check to ensure your bite works together properly. Had a toothache!! I’ve never had a toothache. I was imagining having an extraction, cancer in my jaw, having to have a crown removed. Dr. John knew immediately that I needed a root canal in that tooth. No cancer, no extraction, not losing the crown! Yay!! He gave me a prescription for an antibiotic. The toothache was gone in a day! I love Dr. John!!

Dr. John has been working in dentistry for almost 40 years now, and he’s certainly honed the art of creating healthy, beautiful smiles for the people of Edmond and surrounding neighborhoods in that time. He studied at one of the country’s finest dental school facilities at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry and then worked as an associate of Dr. William (Bill) Lockard. Over the years, he studied with several more of the greatest dentists of our time, including the late Dr. Henry Tanner, Dr. Ronald Presswood, Dr. William (Bill) McHorris, the porcelain veneer pioneer Dr. Bob Nixon, and Dr. Newton Fahl. Today, he is an active member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the Oklahoma Dental Association. His favorite part of his job is working alongside such a great team!
