Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
The hand and wrist are made up of multiple small joints that work together with surrounding muscles and tendons to produce motion – including fine/delicate motion and gripping. There are 27 bones, 29 joints and at least 123 named ligaments in the human hand. The Carpals (wrist), Metacarpals (hand) and Phalanges (fingers) make up the bones of the hand and wrist. Ligaments connect the bones and help stabilize the joints. Muscles tighten and relax to provide movement; tendons connect muscles to bones; tendon sheaths surround and protect the tendons. Our hands require both sensation and movement of joints, tendons and muscles to function. Due to the complexity of the hand and wrist there are many hand and wrist issues.
