Shamco Management is a company that treats all of there tenants like family. I used to live in an apartment building where I only had to deal with the landlord when it came to my rent and repairs with my apartment.

Shamco management is a firm that makes sure that all of there tenants experience is beyond there expectations and if there are any issues I just call the office line and someone is willing to take care of me.

Thankfully I have had the experience in meeting Shamco's Ceo Alan Shamah and I am proud to not only call him my landlord but call him my friend. Alan comes out to the property and when he does he makes sure to come knock on my door to make sure I'm doing alright and make sure his tenants know that he cares

I moved into an apartment owned by Shamco in January of 2013. About 3 weeks into my lease, the heat in the entire building went out. The management company was contacted by the super, and he was told that the company would fix the issue by the next day. Asa temporary remedy, the super was told that all tenants would be provided with a space heater. That night, I was provided with a 6-inch heating fan that was not strong enough to heat even a small room. To get any warmth, one would be forced to sit directly next to the fan. The next day passed, and I approached the super as to why the heat was not back on. He informed me that the boiler had been improperly installed and had burned out. The management company had given him an estimate that it would be done by Tuesday (the heat went out on a Thursday). That meant going the entire weekend without working heat. Tuesday came and went, and there was still no heat. I called the company a few times and received no response. Finally, I emailed them with the details of the problem and stated that I would be withholding rent for all days the building was without heat, as the apartment was not habitable during those times. That finally got a response, in which the individual who called me stated that there had been heat in the building the whole time. A quick check with the NYC HPD complaint website confirmed that this was untrue, and other tenants were continuing to complain about a lack of heat. All in all, the building had no heat for 9 days. Nine. Days. In January.
I opted not to pay rent for those days, as I had stated to the company. It is now over a month later, and they have decided to threaten legal action to get there 300-some dollars.
The above is fact- the following is opinion. I believe that this company is trying to take advantage of the poor minorities that primarily inhabit this building. It is highly unreasonable for anyone to be without hear in winter for 9 days.
Oh, and as an aside, they sent the super to collect their 6-inch heater fans from everyone in the building. Real stand-up folks.
I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone.

I've lived at 2110 Newkirk for 4+ years and the experience so far has been very good, we're happy with our apartment, the management team at Shamco, the super and the maintenance staff at my location.

Key improvements to the lobby area, elevator, intercom system, tenant appreciation day in the lobby is all good and encourages a community atmosphere.

Shamco is very responsive to address issues, willing to listen and act. My only concern is the laundry room could use some improvements/updating.

As a working professional, I usually don’t have the time to write many reviews unless the situation really stands out to me. I have lived at 55 Glenwood Avenue, East Orange, New Jersey 07017, one of Shamco Management properties, for little over two years as a tenant. My apartment is very nice and it is very quiet on my floor, which I love! If I have any repair issues, I can call the 24 hr hotline number or the Property Manager and she will make sure my repairs get completed within a timely manner.

In the recent past, there were things I did not like as a tenant and I communicated that to Management. In those instances, it is my impression they listened intently to my complaints and addressed those matters expeditiously. Over a short course of time, I have watched the Management improved our living situation within weeks ( i.e., mounting new cameras on each floor so tenants can feel safer and packages can be left at the door; installing new carpeting in the hallways of each floor, which makes a world of a difference in the feel and aesthetics of the overall building; set-up an onsite free business center equipped with computers for Tenant use; open a free state of the art gym where tenants can work out safely and conveniently; a new lighting system for the parking lot has also been installed allowing for a brighter area and a deterrent to predators, in conjunction to installing new lights for the back exit area near the garbage acting as an added preventative to criminals and the many other new exciting things they will be doing in the near future. By making these improvements, Management is showing me as a tenant that they care about their tenants safety and enjoyment. This makes me want to stay here indefinitely.

I would definitely recommend this building to potential new tenants.

My take is different. They've improved security, upgrades, & reach out to tenants. Heat is better.

- Take a long time to do repairs

- Completely ignored noise complaints

- Kept my deposit despite the fact that they broke the lease by not enforcing their own rules

It's a typical soul-less management company. Avoid them.

Horrible company. I'm reading sarah levine's review below, and she says that when the heat went out last January, Shamco promised that we would all receive space heaters. That is not true--I was never contacted about that or received one. The heat in our building went out that winter during one of the worst cold spells I've ever seen in NYC. Everyone in the building fled because it was inhospitable, even with space heaters.

These people make it impossible to contact them for anything. If you call them, you get directed to a third party answering service in Texas which they NEVER respond to. If you actually do get ahold of a real person in Shamco, they never answer their calls. Their "office" is always shuttered and no one is in there. This winter it looks like they're cutting a lot of our heat (last winter we had plenty of heat when it was actually on), but they've been really stingy about it. I will be sure to file complaints until this is resolved. But overall, a horrible company to deal with. Our apartment is also really shabby and has all kinds of problems, some of which have never been fixed (holes in the floor, generally shabby attempts at repair and painting). Our ceiling has fallen in twice already and is threatening to fall in again. Any time something happens they just paint over it. Have I mentioned the suspicious construction that has been going on upstairs?
