When I first saw the outside of China Stix, I wasn't too sure about eating there. But once I walked into the restaurant, everything was very assuring. Nicely decorated, but not with the cheesy dragons and the ridiculous hanging lights. However, the staff was not Asian at all. But that allows anyone to work there, encouraging a multi-ethnical staff. Although the laminated menus did not match the ambiance of the rest of the dining area, there was a very large selection. From pan fried dumplings to Hunan delight, the restaurant was quite diverse. First, I ordered the pan fried dumplings because I am a huge fan. About ten minutes later, they came with a spicy sweet sauce which was extraordinary. It complimented the dumplings extremely well. Next the three entrees came: Kung Pao Chicken (If it isn't good, then the whole restaurant), Sesame Chicken (For a sweet touch), and Jalapeno Chicken (Just for Fun). All of them were great, especially the sauces. Believe it or not, the sesame chicken was my favorite. Although a little overbreaded, it was quite tasty. The Jalapeno chicken came in second, but it still had a unique flavor. It wasn't as spicy as I wanted it, but the taste was great. Finally, the Kung Pao Chicken was my least favorite. It was just a little bland. At least it wasn't your ordinary square-chopped chicken with square-chopped ingredients. Instead, you could taste all of the vegetables in your mouth; like they were grown in the kitchen. Everything was very fresh, which was a major turn on. Each dish was served with an egg roll and fried or steamed rice. The egg roll was ordinary - a little bland. The fried rice was actually surprisingly good. With the sauces from the entrees, the rice combination was excellent. Overall, the food was very pleasant. Service was satisfying. One thing to improve on is service though. Also, the food could be a little more seasoned. Other than that, it was a very good Chinese restaurant. I would definitely go back again and again and again.
We tried China Bistro tonight as my husband had been dying to try this lovely little restaurant. It is tucked in a small strip mall on Babcock but do not let that fool you. Once inside you notice how cozy and welcoming of an atmosphere. You are greeted upon entering and everyone there is very gracious; very much concerned about your experience. Since it was our first time, the owner even came to chat with us after dinner. The food is very good, fresh and deliciously prepared. I ventured a bit outside my comfort zone and while I am not usually a fan of green and red peppers, the food was excellent, wonderfully cooked and presented. You cannot beat the price and if you choose the dinner special (4pm to close) you receive soup, fried rice, entree, egg roll or crab rangoon or sweet and sour pork for around $7. You also receive the little fried crunchies with your soup. We were simply shocked when our server brought out our dinner. The portions were HUGE. I mean we left with four boxes of leftovers and we are not little eaters! At any rate, try this place - you will not be disappointed by this quiet, very clean, very welcoming restaurant. We are big Chinese food lovers - both Chinese American dishes as well as authentic Chinese dishes. We have enjoyed Chinese food in some of the best places across the US and Canada. . We have also had the pleasure of eating in China, specifically the Hunan and Guangdong provinces. China Bistro is definitely a cut above with their cozy atmosphere, their awesome food, and their fabulous service! If we could rate this restaurant with 6 stars, we would!!!
I have to agree the food from Peng's is very good but the men in the kitchen (including Jenny's husband) are not very clean. I worked at Peng's for a while and could not believe some of the things the cooks did back there like smoking while cooking the food, dropping food on the floor and still using it. There were always rat droppings in the storage room and when Jenny did have the exterminator come she never closed the next day although she knew there were gonna be roaches everywhere. There was 1 day I was so embarrased because a table of 3 women walked out without paying because a big roach was on their table while they were eating, plus there were roaches on the blinds and some crawling on the floor and all Jenny said was "Just pick em up with a napkin and throw em away". People always complained about the taste of the iced tea and that is because they do not use a tea machine, instead they put the tea bags in a bucket with hot tap water and let them sit in the freezer.
I orders crab rangoons, sweet and sour delight, small hot and sour soup for delivery. I was expecting rangoons like any other place I've gotten them from, soggy greasy and chunky cream cheese filling, what I got was delicious golden crispy rangoons with an actual creamy filling. The hot and sour soup surprised me the same way, I was expecting typical thick gelatin "soup" with some mushrooms and tofu. What I actually got was the best hot and sour soup I've ever put in my mouth. The sweet and sour delight, consisting of fried shrimp, chicken and pork was also delicious. Usually sweet and sour chicken shrimp or pork I get from other places turns out to be a greasy soggy mess but these were crisp and golden. Other than the shrimp was a bit over cooked and the chicken was a little dry but other than that it was perfect (pork was excellent) I plan on making it my permanent place to get Chinese and Vietnamese food from
Hand Down The Best In Town !! I moved to San Antonio in 1997 and Lung Fung was my absolute all time favorite place to eat. I was a regular at this place. So much so, the owner and staff new my name and would bring my drinks without even having to order. If the buffet did not have my favorite - the owner would ask the cook to make it for me - without me even asking. The food was superb, every-time. Always consistent - the items always tasted wonderful (and always the same - which is usually a problem at some other restaurants) I retired and moved away several years ago - wish I could visit more often - I never miss an opportunity to get my fill here when I visit.
BEST KEPT SECRET IN SAN ANTONIO...been eating at this resturant for over 20 years....turned my father on to it...every chance he had coming up from CUERNAVACA, Mor, MEXICO he would take his wife at least 2-3x a week to have lunch or dinner here...and, he could afford to go ANYWHERE he wanted to.... The establishment is clean, casual, and, the FOOD is very, VERY good. TREAT YOUSELF, (YOURSELVES) and have your next meal here....you won't regret it....you'll say "IT'S THE BEST KEPT SECRET IN SAN ANTONIO....
I think the people who own this place also own Grand Buffet on Military near Pleasanton. If you go there for lunch it's average. Dinner time is better. Burke like any restaurant you have to know their strengths an weaknesses. Always go for the Mongolian barbecue or grill. You can put as much shrimp, chicken, pork or beef. You can also get crab legs. Egg rolls are also good. They did have stale noodles for the soup the last time I went, but like I said, you have to know what they do well and what they don't.
the first time i ate here was when my aunt aunt invited me to eat here when i was 12 years old and ever since i have eaten there this is my only chinese restraunt to eat at the food is excellent the lemon chicken and sesame chicken are great they will have your taste buds going wild with the great taste and spices they have in the sesame chicken. the egg droup soup is 50cents which is a very great price and taste very good. so i encourage you very strongly to try golden kirin the best chinese food in san antonio.
Over all there food is good . its about the same you find at any other chinese food place just doesnt taste as premade. Its better to dine in here then to get delivery.. Even living right across the street it takes over and hr to deliver and a $20 minimum which doesnt include food tax or delivery fees. So look yo spend atleast $24 for a single meal when ordering delivery. Waitors are usually pretty nice. Management seems stiff ... And usually not enough parking for dine ins... I rather play pokemon go here
Our family tried this place for the first time and were deeply impressed! We ordered the family pack with mongolian beef and beef with brocolli . Both dishes were cooked to perfection. Alot of sauce on both dishes that did not lack flavor. The shrimp friedrice was wonderful. With big pieces of shrimp and fresh veggies in it. The portions were huge! We only spent $35 and got a gallon of tea with the meal. We ordered to go. Next time we will eat there. And im never going back to Formosa Gardens again.
