A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I were traveling through New Jersey on our way to North Carolina. In a rest area we stopped at, we had a problem with our vehicle, it would not turn over. A passerby noticed our dilemma and offered to help us out. So, we found that there was an Advance Auto nearby in East Orange and headed right there. I waited outside with our car still running and my wife went to purchase a new battery.

She noticed the employee behind the counter looked very busy but was doing his best to keep up with the tasks in front of him. She made a comment to him about how busy it was and that she could see the focused effort he was putting into doing his job. He looked up and was surprised that anybody would even notice, but proceeded to ring up the battery we needed.

He came outside with the battery on a cart and proceeded to make the swap. I asked his name and how long he had worked for Advance Auto and he said he is Paul and worked there 10 years. With the new battery installed, our car started right up and we were on our way. We thanked Paul for his hard work and told him that we will remember him every time we are traveling because of the impression and connection he made with us on that day!

I had a job similar to what Paul does and it is a great feeling to hear from customers that they appreciate the work customer faced employees do. I always tried to make my customers feel like they were the most important people at that instant and they would always walk out smiling. Paul seems to know that little trick too!
