A first-class museum! Coming from Chicago, I expecting it to be far inferior to the Art Institute, but boy was I wrong... St. Louis Art Museum really holds its own. The collection is amazing, and the traveling exhibits are top-notch. And of course, the building and grounds are absolutely magnificent. Beautiful in the summer, and beautiful in the winter (when all the kids snowsled down the hill to the lagoon). Great gift shop in the basement, with decent food at the cafe.
This 19th century gem may be better known in Scotland than St. Louis! Beautifully restored, yet virtually unchanged since the Robert Campbell built, then filled the house with furniture and goods from Philadelphia. Most furnishings were bought at auction and returned by heirs of the Stix, Baer & Fuller department store. It's a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
I think most people in the area don't even know this place exists, I know we didn't. This is a great place to take the family; friendly staff, lots to do, ride on the mini train, cars, trains, planes, boats, activities. We had a great time and definitely recommend this museum to others!
We went here yesterday. It was very very busy but never crowded. Both of my girls (5yo & 8mo) had a lot of fun. We ate lunch on the patio after ordering from The Picnic Basket Cafe located inside The Magic House. It was delicious. Definitely a must stop place for future trips.
What a great asset to the city and some of the best exhibits in the world make stops here (although there is usually an admission fee for those). Wonderful place to expose children and teens to art, scuplture, etc.
The museum is a gem that fits both classical & contemporary art together in one venue seamlessly. SLAM works tirelessly to bring in different exhibitions & shows. I try to make it at least once every 3 months or so.
We have been going to the Museum of Transportation for years and they are always expanding and adding new exhibits/activities. One of the best kept secrets in St. Louis!
Excellent science center and planetarium for great fun for all ages. Check out the view while cars travel below. Oh...and admission is free!!
I saw a fantastic Maya Lin exhibit here. The building, a magnificently serene design by Tadao Ando, is worth the visit alone.
Panorama restaurant has excellent food and a great ambiance! One of our favorite places for a lovely lunch!
