I just tried this place out after reading the reviews here, and was very happy with Sue. She's the only one I interacted with, so I can't speak to the helpfulness of the rest of the staff, but I loved her. I usually have a hard time getting someone to really listen to what I'm saying vs. what they THINK I should be saying. I like a sort of cross between a pixie and a super-short graduated bob, with tons of texture, asymmetrical bangs and a few longer strands here and there. I have super-thick hair and a rather odd natural hairline that most stylists don't want to deal with -- they want to either shave the nape of my neck to the skin with the clippers or try to convince me to grow the hair there out longer than I like.. Sue gave me exactly what I asked for on the first try, and I couldn't be happier with my hair. She's not a big conversationalist, so if you want the "girlfriend experience" you might want to try someone else -- but I'm looking for good hair, not a new best friend. I have no idea what the person who was complaining about the goth decor saw -- sure, there are black accents, but that goes for the vast majority of salons out there. The decor is definitely more Kirkland's than goth. PROS: Sue listened to what I wanted and gave it to me. I got an appointment quickly, was seen on time, she didn't try to "upsell" me into more expensive services, and most importantly, I LOVE my haircut. CONS: No footrests on the chairs, so average-to-short ladies' feet will dangle. Their credit card machine doesn't let you add in the tip on your receipt; you have to tell them how much you want added on there before they swipe it...and since it's your stylist that's the one ringing you up, that all seems pretty awkward to me

I have thought about a review for this business for a whole week. I wanted to be fair but honest... So here goes. Sally brought me into the 21st century. She did an EXCELLENT job! This was my first color (I am 30yrs old), and I am extremely worried about my hair being ruined because I am bi-racial. She treated my hair so that it would not be damaged, and the color is phenomenal. My hair is thick and somewhat coarse so she spent 4 hours on it. However, I paid for those hours. This is my only real complaint. She said next time I would only be there for 2 hours and so pay half the price...which I think is pretty reasonable, yet when I told EVERYONE...co-workers, friends, strangers, how much the cost was...their mouths dropped open. Even when I tried to reason how awesome she did, how great my hair felt, how healthy it was, how happy I am with the style..most pretty much said I was taken..and paid wayyy to much. I wanted the best and I am pretty sure I paid for the best. Soooo...in summary here it is...she is excellent but you will pay for the service. She owns her own shop so she is VERY personal and cares for her clients but you have to pay more for quality...she too has to make a living. I do not know if I will go back. She says it will costs half as much, and I think that is comparable to others however, it hurts to feel I overpaid especially the amount I paid. Yet I did get what I paid for..excellence. So ask how much it will be, if you can handle the price..you will love the outcome..if not..go elsewhere..
The prices at Metro Chic are absolutely in line with all salons in the area. I have gone to this salon for over a year and never paid more than the going rate for anything (but I don't have 4 hours worth of hair, for which I would expect to pay a stylist for 4 hours worth of her time. Don't you get paid by the hour? ) Sally is a skilled stylist who can look at you as a whole person, not just your hair, and know what will make you look good. Not just anyone can do that. She is sincere, she makes you look great, and she takes great care of your hair. In the end, If you feel great about how you look It seems like you absolutely get what you pay for! What more could you want. (from your stylist I mean ;)
