Using fiber optic scopes has become more popular in veterinary medicine. This allows us to perform various procedures such as observation, biopsy and foreign body removal with far less discomfort and quicker recovery time. We have, in house, both flexible and rigid scopes depending on the procedure needed.

Bacterial and Viral Infection Treatment
White blood cells (WBC) – Elevated white blood cell counts indicate infection, inflammation and some forms of cancer or leukemia. Low white blood cells counts can indicate viral infections, bone marrow abnormalities or overwhelming infections and sepsis (blood poisoning). In this situation, the white blood cells are concentrated in the area of infection and are not circulating in the blood, resulting in a low count.

Hip Dysplasia Treatment
Skeleton (orthopedic) X-rays are very helpful in visualizing fractures or bone malformations. Also many congenital defects associated with certain breeds may be detected. These may include bicepital tenosynovitis, shoulder joint dislocation, patellar luxation, ununited anconeal process, elbow joint dislocation, dislocation of the carpus, dislocations of the pelvis, canine hip dysplasia, Perthes’ Disease, cranial cruciate ligament injuries andpatellar luxation. Also diseases such as arthritis, osteochondrosis, panosteitis, hypertrophic osteodystrophy and bone cancers may be detected.
Diabetes Treatment
Glucose is only accurate if a proper fast has preceded the blood draw. The most common cause of elevations in glucose levels is improper fasting. If glucose levels are high with a proper fast it would indicate diabetes mellitus, steroid therapy, acute pancreatitis or hyperadrenocorticism. Low glucose levels indicate hypoglycemia, liver insufficiency or insulin overdose.
Thyroid Disease Treatment
Cholesterol is a form of fat. Some of the more common causes of elevated cholesterol are hypothyroidism, Cushings disease, diabetes, acute pancreatitis and kidney diseases. High cholesterol does not predispose dogs to heart disease as it does in people.

Kidney Disease Treatment
Albumin – is a small protein produced by the liver. Albumin acts as a sponge to hold water in the blood vessels. When blood albumin is decreased, the pressure created by the heart forcing blood through the blood vessels causes the fluid to leak out of the blood vessels and accumulate in body cavities such as the abdominal cavity or in tissues as edema. Albumin is decreased if the liver is damaged and cannot produce an adequate amount of albumin or if albumin is lost through damaged intestine or in the urine due to kidney disease. The only cause of increased albumin is dehydration.

Abdominal X-rays provide an image of the bones and the outlines of a number of internal organs including the liver, stomach, intestines, kidneys, bladder and uterus. This test can be extremely useful for detecting changes in the shape, size or position of organs. Unfortunately, important structures can sometimes blend together on x-rays, so this test does have limitations. For example, a tumor may blend into the background of normal organs because they have the same “opacity,” or shade of gray as the normal tissues. Some foreign objects (such as some plastics) can be invisible on the x-ray. Thus, abdominal x-rays are an excellent “screening test,” but they do not detect all internal problems. In some cases, additional procedures such as ultrasound, endoscopy (scoping), contrast (barium) or dye study or even exploratory surgery are needed to diagnose an intra-abdominal problem.
