Overall
Patterson Dog and Cat Hospital is the best

Nothing but the best for my fur friends. Patterson Dog and Cat Hospital is The Best. Kudos and applause to Dr. Graham. Her willingness to answer questions thoroughly and honestly is legendary. I am the type of client that asks lots of questions and needs to understand the treatments and options. Many medical professionals have received failing grades from me, but not Dr. Graham. She rates A++ after giving TLC to my fur friends for over 25 years. I would give her 10 stars for the grace and tact with which she has euthanized my beloved companions when the inevitable time came. I love the changes (for the better) that she has made at the hospital. Bringing modern updates to a historic building is not easy, and this building is the oldest animal hospital in Michigan. That alone is miraculous in these times of upheaval. Both Dr. Graham and her staff put the animals first. This is not a fancy high tech hospital. When specialized procedures are called for, Dr. Graham explains the need and refers the patients to other facilities. Point being, she does not casually run tests or perform procedures without thinking about the stress it may cause the animal. My fur friends and I have recommended Patterson Dog and Cat Hospital for years. Many people have thanked me for sending them to Dr. Graham at Patterson.

Great Vet!

I first went to Patterson's when I got my 3 year old min pin. Patterson's has always been a friendly, caring place to take my pet. Dr. Graham and the staff are all understanding and compassionate to me (and my finances) and my little neurotic dog. My dog knows Robert, the groomer, by name and gets excited for his nail trims. I always know I can call with any question, and they always treat me with kindness and provide excellent information. Often, if my pet has been in for a problem, they will call to check on him. They are great for same day visits, and I swear even the other people in the waiting room are always nice too! Every staff member there is wonderful. Anyone who remarks that the office is dirty or smelly doesn't understand that its an ANIMAL hospital, not a luxury spa for pets. I'd recommend Patterson's to anyone.

Response to Nov 11, 2009 review from Amber Knows

""""1- the staff is not professional?""

Really? Because Dr. Graham recommended me to a specialist for eye problems that my largest dog had when she could have easily taken more money from me (as another clinic had already attempted to do) - she makes great judgement calls. The vets and techs are there to make your animal comfortable - NOT YOU.

""2- the office smells really bad""

It's a veterinary clinic in Detroit. They don't make the same kind of money a vet clinic in the burbs would. Animals stink - get used to it. If you can't accept the smell of animals, then maybe you shouldn't have one.

""3- they're not open during their posted business hours""

Bull. They have even made special arrangements to stay open for me when I call in advance. Terry at the front desk is awesome!

""4- Once you get past the waiting room you'll see how unclean the floors & tables are.""

I've not had this experience. Their building could use a remodel, but it is apparent that all the money they have gets put into caring for animals... my guess is that they have a bad case of bleeding hearts (because, you know, in Detroit people tend to think their animals are entitled to free veterinary care), which to me, speaks more to their reputation than any other factor that you are complaining about.

""5- Please Please don't take your pet here.""

Since none of the reasons you have stated provide any substantial merit, I'll continue to take my dogs here. The clinic is old school, but the vets are experience and caring. The techs are GREAT with my dogs, and when a procedure is beyond their capabilities they will not risk your animals health to make a few bucks off the procedure. They have been open since the mid 1800s and they operate with an enormous amount of integrity.

Kindest smartest vet ever (Dr. Graham) among the many I have met

Ten years ago I brought a 2 months URI affected, ringworm covered, flea covered 4Lbs runt of the litter girl kitty to the only vet I could go to by taxi from WSU. This cat had everything possible for the next year and I visited Patterson hospital by cab twice a month on average. Dr. Graham was relentless in helping me save this kitten and helping me not give up. In the end every taxi cab knew the crazy French prof going to the vet from the University apartments, but before her second birthday, she had become a splendid and healthy blue point silky cat and she was well enough to have 4 babies, 3 of them survived and became gorgeous. I kept them all and Tofa is 10 years old today with me and surrounded by her 3 healthy daughters: Vanille, Clea and Fripouille.
Bravo and Merci to you Dr. Graham.

Putstanding medical care for you pet from people who love them as much as you do.

This is the oldest veterinary hospital in the state, now operated by a young vet who is simply the finest we have ever patronized. Both Dr. Graham and her staff obviously love animals and show equal kindness and concern for their owners. Can't go wrong.
