Harbortown Market

Not so great....

So Detroit has a big issue with grocery stores. They're so few of them, and limited in the products they supply. Harbortown market is no exception. They have a great number of "specialty" items, but they severely lack in quality of the basics. Produce - their fruits and vegetables are never fresh. Every time I come to the store looking for onions, i find last week's onions sitting there with the outer-most layers peeled off to improve the appearance, and speckles of mold. Meat/Deli selections - it's alright, but i tend to notice that their products go bad fairly quick soon after purchasing. Overpriced - Just because it has the appearance of a posh, and upscale grocery store in downtown Detroit does not give them the right to hike up the prices! I figure they can get away with it because people are turned off to the few other grocery stores available in downtown Detroit because of the external appearances (solicitors, graffiti, and tacky hand-written deal signs do not strike a shopper with much confidence). Sure I continued to shop at this market when I needed something, but it was purely out of convenience. I have on occasion avoided this store, and made an effort to drive out to the Dearborn Walmart for a better selection and prices.

This is me an my girl favorite...

This is me an my girl favorite new spot. The food is Good! I have been going at least 4 times out the week since it opened near the crib. A good friend of mine, kept telling me about Chef Yusef when He was cooking at the Fatboyz restaurant. I never made the time to stop in. I could kick my self for not listening. My man Yusef be sending that food out right. He is hard working and has his two teenage boys up in the place working by his side. A family restaurant. I love watching those two young men taking care of business. I'm hooked! No Lie! Everything I've tried was very good. I Love the homemade peach cobbler and banana pudding. The alfredo potato with chicken and shrimps is the bomb. I believe is going to be the last man standing! God bless his business.

My OT love this store and I like the store. BUT it smells and its a bit dirty, I once went there for meat (chicken) it smelled funny the day I got it. After 2days the chicken went HORRIBLE and the so called manager smiled in my face and said "Make sure your refrigerator is running (if it wasn't I would not have brought bags of chicken) out of 3bags of chicken one bag was bold!. -__- I was highly upset and then said I can not replace all this chicken but I can give you partial. We never sell bad chicken and all of our meat is fresh.. Apparently NOT. Once I got the batch of chicken, I left it in the fridge up to 3days. I know how long to leave chicken in. I've been around chick my whole life! Management is a JOKE!
