LifeSource Chicagoland's Blood Center is a nonprofit corporation established in 1987, through the merger of the Blood Center of Northern Illinois and the Red Cross Blood Services - Mid America Region. LifeSource supplies blood and blood products to hospitals in Chicago, through more than 20 donor centers and three mobile unit supported donor centers. The organization conducts nearly 10 mobile blood drives daily. It recruits donors; collects bone marrow; and draws blood to separate into components, such as whole blood, platelets, plasma, stem cells and other special products for hospitals and health care customers. LifeSource also provides cross matching and related activities through its transfusion support services; offers reference laboratory service; and viral testing services. The organization serves professional clinics, private physician practices, and chemistry, immunology, serology and blood bank laboratories of participating hospitals. It is located in Glenview, Ill.
