Went to this place to celebrate my neices birthday, we ordered pizza, and this 'seafood special'. the service was well below par, they were not happy we had our little girl with us, but we had flown in from san diego to celebrate my neices birthday, so too bad if my daughter was with us. so bad service to start with, very noisey, and the pizza was so far the worst i have ever had in des moines. so lets get to the seafood special..... gamey at the least, not great nor good, we figured fresh frozen, after all, we were in des moines. 2 hours later...BAM! She was vomiting, and had horrible diarrhea!!, so another 4 hours in the emergency room at mercy hospital with an IV in her arm, they finally let us go home.... like 4 am!! Documented by Mercy Hospital!! Food Poisoning!! people, stay healthy, stay away from centro!
Stay AWAY !! Food Poisoning is HORRIBLE. My fiance got food poisoning from this place, and it was certified by Mercy Hospital!! and the refused to pay the emergency room visit. to top it off, they (the chef) didn't even realize when you steam shellfish, and it doesnt open naturally, it is bad!! OMG. do not trust your health to this place!! to top it off, the service was HORRIBLE, and their award winning pizza was COLD !! YUCK, YUCK,YUCK. don't waste your money there! there are much better places to eat at, even burger king is better!

A few friends have raved about this restaurant, and I've eaten there twice. The menu is decent for an Italian restaurant, but nothing is terribly inventive. I ate margherita pizza on one visit, gnocchi verde another time. The food wasn't bad at all, but to be frank, it was not as great as I was told it would be. To be fair, I didn't eat any meat dishes, so perhaps their carnivorous endeavors are more ambitious.

Snotty service. The hostess didn't say one thing to us...not ""Welcome"", ""Follow Me"", ""Enjoy Your Meal"" or ""Hello""! Our server never introduced herself! Her greeting to us: ""You guys want a drink?"". The next couple to sit down next to us was treated differently than us...""Hi, my name is so and so. How are you tonight? Can I start you out with a glass of wine?"" She didn't even explain the specials to us as she did for the tables next to us!
The food was good. Period that is it. Good, not great. I have nothing else to say about it...it didn't leave an impression.
Oh...the best part...we were there on March 2nd...they still have Christmas decorations up! Come on!! At least change the glittery poinsettias out for some lilies!

This restaurant is widely regarded among locals as a top option in quality eating out.
Good quality and delicious, romantic atmosphere (great for a date). The bread is fresh from a local nearby bakery, and everyone loves it. You should go. Popular for business lunch as well.

Coming from Chicago, I am partial to locally owned, independent restaurants. I have gone to Centro on numerous occassions because of the variety in the menu and great service. The food is always fantastic and servers are extremely polite. Centro is great for dinner, carry-out or brunch, although if you're planning to dine in, you may need to call ahead for a reservation on the weekend. The brick oven pizza is also top notch. Prices are extremely reasonable. Cute old-Italian decor, romantic ombience. Love it!
