Overall

As an employee of a large corporate pet store (and thereby technically competition), I can safely say that these people know their business. I frequently refer people to Jurassic Pets when I am faced with a customer who needs specific (or obscure) reptile/amphibian/arachnid items or information.

I frequent the store myself, as I have a finicky ball python who refuses to eat frozen/thawed. Every time I'm there, I feel welcome, valued, and I never leave feeling like I was just another transaction. I feel confident with each purchase that I have obtained quality goods, and that I have supported a good mom-and-pop store.

What I find interesting to note specifically is that I *cannot* in good conscience refer customers in my own store to their competition/former proprietors. I have heard too many stories - from customers themselves - of the terrible care taken of the animals kept at Scales'n'Tails. I can, however, feel confident in referring customers to Jurassic Pets, as I know firsthand how well they provide proper lighting, heat, humidity, and nutrition for even their most exotic creatures. Animal care at a pet store is no easy task, believe me. They do it very well, and are attentive to every detail and every need of their menagerie.

They're also extremely ethical in their sales, meaning they won't just sell a living thing willy-nilly to some yahoo who doesn't care if it dies from neglect. They carefully weigh their customers' intentions, and parse out those who would mistreat or neglect their animals. Due to that careful consideration (and care in the animals' future well-being), I am able to refer customers to them for adopting out pets they can no longer care for. Have an oscar you can't handle anymore? Or a snake that your son left behind when he moved to Bolivia? How about a plecostomus that's ten sizes too big for your tank? Talk to them and see if they can take it in to rehome. They'll take great care of them and find them a good place to live.

Whatever you've heard or experienced about their past, before being privately owned, you can pretty well forget. This new management is amazing, ethical, honest, sincere, and knowledgeable. I'd recommend them - and do - every time.

This bickering has been going on for sometime. I bought a snake before all this came to pass. The store has evolved beautifully. I love the new setup, the people, and their lovely Louisiana chick. She cracks me up. The people are way nicer since the new change. I heard every time I came in the drama from the old owner about lawsuits blah blah blah. I am a customer I could give a fig. Sell me my rat to feed my snake. The new owners recently did not open the store 1 day on time? Maybe they had an emergency? Happens in small business. I went down the street to Scales and Tails and they gloated at the fact they made a singular mistake. I am a grownup and run a business nearby. Glad you won your lawsuit or whatever, but to have your store 4 blocks down to start a war is so unprofessional it is stupid. I was floored by Scales and Tails negativity. I did not like them when they owned the old store(Jurassic Pets) still do not. Go into Scales and Tails and it is like a black cloud. I just need a rat. They should shut their negative mouths. If I were back home, the girl at Scales and Tails would have been laid out. No, but this is Colorado. They sue. I am a real customer. I have 0 time for drama when I am shopping. Should be a enjoyable experience. I am over their stupid crap. My friends got bad fish at Scales and Tails too. Done. Blah blah blah

Great people/great shop

For the record, Ken is no longer there. The new owners are friendless, knowledgable and willing to answer all your questions and make sure your pet is healthy. I recommend Jurassic Pets to everyone I know who is interested in making a reptile part of their family.
