Food That's Way Too Good For A Bar This Fun!

Regular Hours

General Info:
History of the Cricket The term 'legendary' is overused these days. But the Cherry Cricket lives up to the lofty classification and the revered reputation it holds as a bastion of classic neighborhood-bar culture. Mary Zimmerman opened the original Cherry Cricket as 'Mary Zimmerman's Bar' in 1945. The bar was actually the living room of her home, which sat where the Sears Auto Center is today. Her customers were mainly garbage truck drivers working at the Denver trash dump, now buried beneath the Cherry Creek Mall site. (Yep, this was one of Denver's first successful 'recycling' endeavors.) Around 1950, Zimmerman purchased the property at 2nd and Clayton where she built what is now the Cricket's main dining room. Over the years she added to the structure, increasing its size to accommodate a growing clientele. After Zimmerman's death in the early Sixties, the Cricket changed proprietors a couple times before ending up in the capable hands of Bernard Duffy. Duffy gained local bar-culture fame as the owner of the equally legendary (and now shuttered, sniff-sniff) Duffy's Tavern in downtown Denver. Duffy installed the classic neon sign that now graces the front of the building and carried out a number of improvements at the Cricket. One of the most notable was a hugely popular $2.50 prime rib lunch buffet. (History says Duffy was a thrifty `tender who rarely offered a round on the house.) Duffy retired in 1972 and sold the bar. Over the following years, The Cricket was decked out in much sports memorabilia, making it one of Denver's first sports bars. Sadly, the Cricket also gained a reputation for bringing a 'dump' back to Cherry Creek. (Along with some of Denver's surliest waitresses and a contingent of six-legged visitors.) But Eli McGuire and her husband bought the bar in 1990 and returned the Cherry Cricket to its former glory. Under her watch, the Cricket took on more customers and more space for those craving a cold beer and a great burger in a friendly, unpretentious setting. Today, the Cherry Cricket's clientele includes working stiffs, old schoolers and shoppers taking a break from chic hunting. It also welcomes a younger crowd, business lunchers, and families who savor the aforementioned 'legendary' status of the Cricket. After Eli's passing in 2000, Wynkoop Holdings purchased the long-lived landmark. Today, the Holdings team and Cricket staff are honoring Eli's dream of making the Cherry Cricket 'the best damn bar around.'

Great Burgers, fun atmosphere

In beautiful Cherry Creek this is a fun place to eat dinner. We were recommended it being new to the city as having great burgers and they did not disappoint. They have many ways you can customize your burger and good drink specials as well. Now we bring people who come to visit there too. We definitely enjoy it for date nights now and then.

okay, but not the best

I've been to cherry cricket a few times and its just okay. the service isn't the best, and when i used to like burgers, i wasn't a huge fan of theirs. This place is not terrible though.

Nice place.

This place has got so much better than the first time I went in. When I first got there a long time ago it was a dump. They have taken the time to create a patio and expanded their seatting area. Food ok but atomosphere great.

JOKE of a place!

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!! After waiting over a half hour we were called for a table. Then were told they made a mistake and it wasn't ready, and waited another half hour, only to be crammed into a too small booth and told we could find our own chairs if we needed more space. THEN it was another wait for a drink order, where half the drinks were forgotten, then another 30-40 minutes before our waitress felt the need to take our food order. Finally the food came and one of the dishes was forgotten, we had to go to the kitchen ourselves. When we tracked down our waitress AGAIN for the bill, we asked her to put a small amount on one card and the larger on the other. You guessed it she managed to mix that up too. The food wasn't great, the service is a joke, the Cricket has a reputation that it should lose!!! I was in favor of no tip, but luckily some others at my table were nicer and left an undeserved 10%. I wish I didn't have to give even one star to this place in order to post this review!

Horrid Service!

My boyfriend brought me here for my birthday dinner last night (4/5/11) and the ONLY thing we got from our order was our drinks! No salads, no dinner. NOTHING. After 35 minutes the waiter came by and asked if we had gotten our salads yet? I replied ""No..we haven't gotten anything! And besides YOU would be the one bringing it to us!""

After 40 minutes we were tired of waiting and left. We weren't in there when it was busy, it was 7:30pm!

It's really too bad that this place had such horrid service...thanks for ruining my birthday night. We won't ever be coming back...and this was our first time there.
