Great Food, Great Service, Great Place!

    Provided by

We keep going back to the Porch for various reasons, starting with the quick and easy valet service in back, the friendly knowledgeable staff, the amazing specials and fantastic bartenders who create specialty drinks from scratch. It's casual yet classy. The wine list is good. And the Stodge Burger is world famous for curing even the worst hang overs. 2 Thumbs Up!

    Beware of the Stodg Burger!!!

    Provided by

***BEWARE*** \r This burger IS flavorful, but it sorely packs a punch!!!\r \r I am fan of The Porch on most any given night. This place seems to always be happening at dinnertime, valet sucks, but hey if you’re lucky you may find a spot right out front. I haven't had a lunch experience, but I’m sure it's probably the same. Last night it turned out to be great, on the account that my girl friend and I made some new friends and we really enjoyed the service we got from Thomas behind the bar. His drinks are always just what the doctor orders and for that I cannot complain and must applaud! As for us being seated, well we had to wait an hour ½, but we were okay with that because we enjoyed our new friends so much, that we almost didn’t even care to go and sit down. When we were finally seated we had a really decent table out on ""the porch / patio"", I don’t think any tables at this place are bad and we were happy with the accommodations we got. I understand the wait to be lengthy because I think it’s the place to be for a great Friday date night at 7pm. So no complaints there because it’s expected. So back to the food, for an appetizer we seem to always get their Mac & Cheese dish, it's simply amazing and I always find myself eating ¾ of the dish and my girl friend a mere .25 of it, lol… I can generally never get enough. As for our main course on this particular night I went with a friend’s suggestion, and now I wish I hadn't. Not only am I still sick to my stomach, but so is my girl friend. This hard to digest ""Stodg Burger"" has so much going on with it that Man vs. Food would even think twice about it; not to mention the enormous amount of grease this thing had dripping from it! I'm sorry Porch, but that burger is bad news to anyone who even thinks they have a tough stomach lining, and if I want delicious burger grease filled, I will go to Jakes Burgers down the street. I am a coinsurer of foods and dining out, and although I do enjoy the place, last night will probably stick with me for the rest of my life. I love the egg concept (over cooked), but what’s the sense of getting a 5 inch burger if you cannot enjoy it and all its flavors at the same time??? I think the burger is too big for its own britches, because everything seems to be falling out of it and you have to piece it back together. I give this burger 2 Stars for what this burger will do to you, and it only got 2 Stars because I did like the flavor. I will never eat this burger again!\r

    Definitely not worth it.

My friend and I just returned from lunch on a Saturday afternoon at this poor excuse for a trendy restaurant. We should have gone to Capital Pub, Village Burger, Snuffer's or John's Cafe. We were less than pleased to pay $34.64 plus tip for two average and bland roast beef sandwiches, below average fries, and two average ice teas, especially when it took them 15 minutes to replace the sweet ice tea, with which they surprised the heck out of me, with normal ice tea. We also accidentally broke a glass because the outside porch area's severe slope and poorly constructed tables led to one of the ice teas' unfortunate departure from the table. I think the glass is still on the ground, so watch your step. I gave two stars (instead of one) because the food wasn't bad, just not good enough to outweigh the service and price.

    All around Good

I have been here on dates , with buddies and with a small group and each and every time we have had good service and great food. Bar tenders are friendly and wait staff is attentive and well prepared. Mac & Cheese, Ribs, burgers and fish have all been great. Similar menu to Houstons and every bit as good. Food is TX home cooking so its heavy, probably not the best idea before a night out but if your wanting to make dinner the main event for the evening then try this great restaraunt out. Expect a long wait on Thurs, Fri and Sat nights.

    Won't be back

We were a party of 12 and had never been to The Porch. I called a few days in advance to ask about reservations and learned they don't take them and was advised to send someone early (6:30) to get our name on the list and when the whole party was there, they would be able to seat us pretty quickly. We followed that advice; sent an early arriver and the whole party was in attendance by 7. Unfortunately we found ourselves still waiting for a table at 8:15. Periodic checks with the hostesses, which included a manager, produced a repeated response that they were doing all they could and it was just a matter of certain tables finishing up and it shouldn?t be too long. No attempt was made to hold a table while another finished up in order to accommodate us. They continued to fill tables over and over. We left for another restaurant. Yes, The Porch is a ?hot? spot, but even so, customer service is part of the game. I will never return and am glad they didn?t get our money that night. Regardless of their inability to handle a party ?of size?, I have no desire to return because I don?t want to have to yell in order to be heard by the people I?m with. Incidentally, we enjoyed the backup restaurant very much. We were seated within 15 minutes, had excellent service, could talk without raising our voices and we were all pleased with our meals.

    Good burger

    Provided by

I went here for lunch. There was a wait, so I went over to the bar area and sat down right away. You can do that if you have a small group and don't mind the tall tables. I ordered the burger with chedder and bacon instead of the sliders. It came with the sea salt fries (sliders are technically an appetizer, so no side). I noticed there was no ketchup on any of the tables. So basically everytime someone orders fries, the waitstaff is later asked to bring ketchup to the table. My waiter anticipated this and offered it as he followed up about the food. I sort of felt sorry for the wait staff as they walked back to the kitchen to get a dish of ketchup on a plate to take back to their customers. My waiter was spread out with tables, but he kept a good eye on my table. Next time, if weather permits, i'm going to try to snag a table on the patio.

    This place is a winner....except

    Provided by

Service is great, the place looks nice and the food is good. The brisket sliders are ok, but overated in my opinion. I was disappointed , mainly because you get only 3 for $10 (four would be better). The shreaded (smokey) beef brisket mixed with sauce is like a sloppy joe sitting on a small roll with a really tasty slaw and a pickle slice. Chopped beef would probably work better as the meat tends to pull out of the small sandwich, sometimes in large chunks when eating like a burger. Overall the sliders get a b- from this visitor. On the other hand the burgers are BIG!. The cheeseburger is $10 and looks great. Other menu items were well executed and pleseant. I think $6 for a Sam Adams or Sierra Nevada Pale ale is steep and so it the $8 glass of wine (lowest). But I have to hand it to Tristan Simon, he is a genius. This place works and gets packed. We arrived at 5:30pm (thank god) on a Saturday evening and were seated right away. By 6pm it was standing room only in the bar area for people waiting for tables. \r Biggest negative is the valet service they have hired to park cars. They are very aggressive with the cars they park. To be fair, It is a busy place and the valet company is parking for 4 restaurants. But there is no reason for this arrogant behavior. Additionally, they use an alley way that connects the parking lots. This thing has a rather rough mud hole in it. I saw the valet driver slam my freshly washed Honda Accord into that hole at a speed a whole lot faster than was necessary and I cringed from the noise it made. I am having the front end checked out today and they will hear from me about it. It is not entirely the valet company's fault. Mr. Simon is making enough money to make that alley way more auto friendly, but apparently is not aware of this problem. In conclusion, I pledge not return to Cubre Libre, The Porch, or the (soggy) Fireside Pies again.... At least in my ride. \r I'm sure they won't miss my business even if I don't

excellent customer service -- great food!

    Provided by

i have been to the porch 4 times now and each time i have consistently had great customer service, great food and i actually think the prices are reasonable. i would describe the food as home cooking with a gourmet twist. great for families too -- you can get the popcorn chicken (forget the price -- but 2 children can definitely split this!) and a big helping of ""fruit cocktail"" for $4! not too bad in my book!

Summer really is better on The Porch!

    Provided by

Having relocated to Dallas from the West Coast, we love restaurants that embrace the casual dining experience with food that exceeds our expectations. The Porch provides all that and more. On our second visit, we started with the Softshell crab BLT slammers - what perfect bouquet of flavors! The Brisket slammers are also off the chart. The drink menu also offers some great new options. The is the perfect place to meet friends for a casual evening of conversation and great food.

Nice Patio but not to sure about the food or the price

    Provided by

Great location, great outdoor area but the food was way overprice and we couldn't figure out what kind of food it was? Bar food? Fusion? American? Not really sure. It's all decent food but for the price we paid, it definitely wasn't worth it. I'll goto Old Monk or Firesides if I am going to eat on a patio. Waiting for outdoor seating at the porch is not worth the wait or the price.

Great food and they are proud of it...

    Provided by

I have to say that I really wanted to like The Porch. It's a great concept in a great neighborhood. The menu is fun, the food is tasty and the service is solid. The prices are ridiculous. We were shocked when we got our bill.\r \r If I am going to spend money on a good dinner, I'd really like to go to a place that doesn't feel like a barn on the inside. The patio at The Porch is one of the most boring and univiting places in Uptown. \r \r If you don't care about ambiance and have an expense account, you'll have a wonderful evening. Like I said, the food is wonderful.

    Love it

I ate here last night and I loved it. We sat outside on ""the porch"" where it was nice and cool. The service was great and the food was even better. It was packed, but they sat us right away. I cant wait to go back!
