Fine Dining

Anniversary Dinner (12/06) thoughts- \r
Positives - Atmosphere, service, presentation, wine list, food preparation, timing and taste\r
Negatives - Portion size (extremely small), time (give yourself 2 to 2 1/2 hours), wine list.\r
The wine list is on both positives and negatives side for a reason - lack of originality. There were very few unknowns or discoveries on the list which was populated by mostly well-known labels. Additionally, the sommelier didn't have the vocabul

Time is only an issue if you have plans following dinner - if you have tickets for a show then eat early as you won't make the subsequent engagement otherwise.\r
Serving sizes were meant to be savored not gorged. Meaning, eat small bites and discuss the tastes as you enjoy the meal. If you want a large meal then this place isn't for you unless you are a runway model.\r
Overall a nice experience but at $500 for two with wine you want to be talking about the meal in much more glowing terms and for much longer.

excellent meal

This could easily become my favorite restaurant in Dallas, but I'll have to go a few more times to gauge their consistency and see more of their work. This much is the truth: these people understand foie gras. It was the best I've ever had, which is saying something because I overindulge fairly regularly. The pork belly was not exactly to taste (could have used some searing), but was nonetheless very enjoyable. The beef was very flavorful, but maybe a little too salty. But the por...view moretions were large, and overall it was a good value. Dessert, which I think is a weak point at 5-star restaurants, was very, very good (it was some sort of creme brulee with carmel popcorn and ice cream). And there are lots of pleasant little extras along the way (good bread, candy, sorbet, pre-dessert etc.).\r
There are cheaper five-star restaurants, but you do get more for your money here. The staff is incredibly attentive, very welcoming, and spot-on with recommendations. I'm looking forward to going back.

A meal to remember

The food here is too die for! Be warned, starve yourself before you dine here. I kid you not, every course was like a blissfull hell. I was about to burst, and could not stop eating. . . The chef is definately the star here. I don't think there is one single thing on this menu that I would not love, (and I had no idea what to order!) \r
If I had an option for one last meal, this is definately it!

Doesn't get better than this in Dallas

If you want upscale service, food, and atmosphere, this is a fabulous place. It is expensive, but if you have to ask, then you can't afford it. You don't eat at a place like this because you care about money. You eat here for the experience, and to be treated like a queen or king. Top Chef, top wait staff, top everything. This is 5 star and where you go when you need or want to feel special or make someone feel special....ah,,,unforgettable!

It felt Right.

James Donohue the Maitre d was elated to welcome us, Carlos our head server took care of us as members of the family, the champagne stimulated, and the merlot balanced. The ritual of the arrival and the departure of the culinary arts were flawless. I was not a guest at the French Room, not a character in a play; there were no choreography, no anticipations, I was at ease, I did not want more, I was home, I felt right. It was one evening I will always remember. The French Room did n...view moreot disappoint.view less

Fabulous Dining Experience

I am incredibly happy after dining at the French Room. The service was impeccable, the setting is exquisitely beautiful, and the food kept on brining an idiotic smile to my face. I shared everything with my dining companion, and from the amuse bouche to the complimentary sweets after dessert, we had to work exremely hard to find a single flaw. And that single flaw was the only one we found.. but we'll speak of that later. One appetizer was a crab cake served over a ginger-lemongrass lo...view morebster sauce, a crab cake which consisted entirely of jumbo lump crab. The other starter was tomato sorbet served over seasoned ahi tuna tartar in a bowl of the most tasty thing I've ever had that professed to be a mere gazpacho. The orange sorbet cleanser was charmingly presented in ice cornocopias, but otherwise not memorable. However, the entrees were amazing! The diver scallops dish had 4 gorgeous specimens seared in almost jerk-like spices resting on fork-smashed potatoes with a sauce of chicken jus. Chicken jus with scallops!? But it was perfect! The result was a constantly entertaining mixture of home-spun comfort (potatoes and jus) surrounding the more rarified scallop flavor. The accompanying cherry halves were tasty, but not necessary. Our other entree featured a medium rare duck breast, seared fois gras, and squash blossom stuffed with duck/fruit sausage that left me thinking I was in mouth heaven. The accompanying sauce provided just the right touch. The dish may sound busy, but it all worked, and I never had better fois gras - mmm! We enjoyed the complimentary coffee mousses before the desserts made their appearance. The Mansion on Turtle Creek has a worthy challenger for best creme brulee in Dallas, but our other dessert provided the sole flaw. While the mascarpone espresso mousse was unexceptionable and the banana sorbet delicious, the flourless chocolate cake at the base wasn't the silky smooth texture it should have been. The closing sweets were a lovely end.view less

Nation's #1.

My experience in the French Room was by happenstance as an associate of mine was in town for business and staying at the Adolphus Hotel. I've spent 20 years dining at some of our nation's best restaurants in Chicago, SF, DC, New Orleans, & NYC and they all could learn a lesson or two from the French Room. The food was excellent, the presentation was stunning and the service was beyond compare. This is an experience you just need to have in life, I now know why they have were named Z...view moreagat's #1 restaurant.view less

One of Dallas' Best

One of the finest dining experiences to be had in Dallas. The room is stunning, the service is excellent, the staff is very helpful from valet to the Sommelier. Get the prix fixe menu as wine pairings are amazing and enhance one of the finest food experiences you'll have in Dallas. I love this place and have had only one ""less than perfect"" experience with about 20 visits. Highly recommend for that special evening out or that hard-to-impress client.
