Your obstetrician may refer you to see a perinatologist. A perinatologist is a physician who has completed specialty residency training in obstetrics and gynecology and then completed additional subspecialty fellowship training in high-risk pregnancies and fetal abnormalities. A perinatologist may also be called a maternal-fetal medicine specialist.

North Texas Perinatal Associates is the largest maternal-fetal medicine group in North Texas with 7 American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine accredited offices in the Arlington/McKinney region. Our board-certified and eligible physicians provide outpatient, office-based high-risk pregnancy care, inpatient antepartum consultative care, and maternal-transfer services.

Additionally, perinatologist can provide screening services for chromosomal or genetic disorders with maternal blood tests and/or ultrasound or with diagnostic testing like amniocentesis. Finally, your obstetrician may request that a perinatologist do a detailed ultrasound evaluation of your baby to evaluate for birth defects.
Radiology
When you get services from an in-network hospital or ambulatory surgical center, certain providers there may be out-of-network. In these cases, the most those providers may bill you is your plan’s in-network cost-sharing amount. This applies to emergency medicine, anesthesia, pathology, radiology, laboratory, neonatology, assistant surgeon, hospitalist, or intensivist services. These providers can’t balance bill you and may not ask you to give up your protections not to be balance billed.
