    I had repeatedly horrible customer…

I had repeatedly horrible customer service on Friday nights (Panoptikon Night or Gothic Night). The bartenders (i.e., the owners) are rude, abrupt, and sarcastic about everything. One of the ladies who checks your license at the front door is virtually always clueless, aloof, and short with words. Furthermore, they don't even turn on the air-condition in the summers which creates a hot, smelly, and stuffy atmosphere.

The DJs are among the worst in Dallas because of their limited and repetitive mix of songs: there is absolutely no variety in the songs or bands that they play. There have been several times throughout various Friday nights when the DJs will play extremely noisy non-danceable music that actually clears out the dance floor for 30 minute intervals rather than playing good goth and electronic classics that encourages people to dance. The DJs should be examining the dance floor to see if many people are actually dancing. They don't do that; insinsting that they play non-danceable and irritating songs.

Furthermore, it's not a sociable hang-out. The social atmosphere is icy cold and unwelcoming. There are usually about 20 or 30 customers each Friday night sitting around looking dazed and confused as they stare off into space like brain-damaged zombies in various Gothic costumes, moreover, druid and vampire outfits. Occasionally, three or more people get up to dance: then after two songs they mysteriously run off to the corners of the dark nightclub leaving the dance floor empty for nearly the entire rest of the night. Most of the pretentious cliques who attend Panoptikon are unapproachable and aloof which adds to the air of coldness, dullness, and absurdness.

Once we went for an event that requested a donation to charity. The pugnacious, rude, and belligerent female employee who sits at the front door demanded that we give a $10 donation each; which we did not have. She persisted angrily even though we did not have to give her anything since they advertised "donation requested" which is false advertising. We found her to be extremely rude and unprofessional. Also, she gave us dirty looks which reflects very poorly on her. Her sour and dishonest attitude is not appreciated. We do not bother anymore with these sour and dull poseurs at Excuses Extreme Cafe.

Lastly, Excuses Extreme Cafe is a waste of time and money. The bartenders, who are also the owners, are snippy, short with words, and aloof; they appear as if they do not want to be there; I've even seen the Mexican bartender watch football games on the big screen during Gothic night; he has been the rudest amongst everyone there (e.g., they falsely advertised that the kitchen would be open all night yet they refused to bake anything for me); and the employees advertise extremely poorly and unethically; often giving off mixed messages in their advertisements rather than presenting direct, consistent, true, and understandable advertising. When you ask basic questions they retort with sarcastic remarks instead of promoting their venue like good salespeople. The floors in the restrooms and in the lounge areas are sometimes covered in dust and filth: I could tell they don't mop or sweep. Let's hope they go out of business soon; hopefully, new and more competent managers take over.

    I had a good time

The night I went to place was jumpin and the atmosphere was lively. The food was good and we didn't have to wait for it. I thought the prices were good.

    a night at the roxbury

waffles my a$$! i think Will Farrell prepared my meal. this was a wanna-be Cordon Bleu chef. Not to mention the bartender wanting to play DJ for his mummy...the pooltable was not regulation size, but more like "quit being a little $itch" size. make sure not to hit your head on the stairs when you play. i agree this place is full of excuses along with a whole lotta cr@p. the wanna-be "art" that's more like titt-fest really sets the atmosphere to EAT! walking in really was creepy and wasn't anything like the old school deep ellum. Hummus? really? Don't mess with the fukin Zohan! no chips with your sandwich, over priced, and a very weird smell that i have yet to figure out...the techno sucked and do they really need all those tv's in there? what happened to the rainbow unbrellas? i can bet good money, even Monopoly money, that this place won't last! i left with the song, "what is love (baby don't hurt me) in my mind and wondered if " "steve and doug" will walk hand in hand into the hummus colored sunset. watch the movie and order out, it'll be cheaper, you will actually get full and you will still feel like you are really there!

A Cafe, Gameroom, Poker Lounge and Meeting Place...All In ONE

    Provided by

Excuses Extreme Cafe offers delicious food, fun games, friendly service and great hours. They have transformed the legendary Club One space into a friendly neighborhood cafe. The staff and owners are eager to make sure their customers are happy and will also assist in any party or event planning you may have. After being a patron of Club One for years I can honestly say they did a fantastic job on making the space inviting yet left the things about the original space that make it interesting. I imagine it would be a fun place for kids since there are so many things to keep them busy here. Excuses is an original concept that you don't see in Dallas very often so I really wish them the best. Once you experience Excuses Extreme Cafe you will never run out of excuses to stop in and enjoy.

    Great place to play pool!

    Provided by

What a great find! We went to another place first on Sat and they were closed for a private party , so we were looking for a NON SMOKING place to play pool. We went to citysearch, tyed in billiards, and this pool place came up. The review below could not be faarther from the truth, this place is great! They had pool tables, great music a full bar and a food bar. They also had other games, but we were only interested in a non smoing place to play. What fun! You have got to check this place out. Extreme is just really that much better than what you expect out of deep ellum!

    Big Caution

    Provided by

Went to this place for the first time expecting great things. I could not keep track of how many things\r went wrong. We placed our order and first thing they came back and said that they were out of one of the items a member of our party wanted to order....no biggie. Quite a few vegetarians in the group so choices were limited. After taking a very long time to serve, they finally came carrying too much to handle and dropped one of the pastas on the floor....they said we would have to wait 10 minutes for another one. By that time some folks were ready to start eating. (they served us in shifts preventing us from eating together and people felt they wanted to wait for the others) The spilled pasta patron ordered a sandwich instead but got hers sooner than a party member who ordered in the first round. Initially they came with food for only half the group... We had to remind them that she had ordered a sandwich too a long time ago. Waiter shift change was the excuse. Sandwiches came with NOTHING extra....no chips....no fries...nothing but the sandwich (french dip- meat looked like thicker Arby's meat). We inquired and were told pickles are served with some but not with that particular sandwich. Then we knew some were going to leave still hungry. We ordered some sorbet....(single dips) and we were brought bowls with delicious sorbet (the one bright spot) and low and behold when the bill came we were charged for two scoops each when we hadn't ordered two per person. What's up with that? Had to ask twice for refills on beverages....the begian waffle was teeny (but he said it was good). Portions are definately not very large so don't go hungry. For what we spent? 53$ got us 2 sandwiches with no sides, a pasta meal (salad had to be ordered on the side, extra) a personal pizza, a waffle with fruit, 3 drinks and 2 sorbets.\r AND NO attempt at any kind to make up for anything we experienced. Excuses?? they were full of them.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner in a place I would never have suspected...check it out!

    Provided by

Wow! Imagine my complete surprise when I stopped by the old Club One location and found someting called Excuses Extreme Cafe. The owners have kept some of the old, but upscaled the colors and added great seating - big tables and small ones along with a restaurant now where one of the bars used to be. Smelled great inside - Deborah was just pulling out a tray of freshly baked Rasberry / White chocolate scones out of the oven. Who would ever have thought of scones at Club One...Oh yes, EXCUSES - cute name! They say they want to give people ""excuses"" to come back to Deep Ellum - this is a really good start! I noticed belgium waffel irons and was told by one of the other customers that the breakfast pizza was ""second to none"". I opted for a toasted bagel and a great cup of vanilla bean coffee. I plan on stopping by in the afternoons and using the free wi-fi and - perhaps having dinner too. This place has a warm friendly feel - a nice place just to hang out - pool tables and a full service bar too. A really great job guys!!!!

Lemons into Pink Lemonade in Deep Ellum

    Provided by

Here's an amazing turn-around in Deep Ellum. In the space that housed one of the many dance clubs that used to draw big crowds into Deep Ellum a new concept has been born. The old club one owners have converted the space at 3025 main into a restaurant....game space...sports bar.....meeting place...you name it. They have large tables where a group could have a breakfast or lunch meeting and small tables where a couple could sit and have a quiet conversation and make plans for life. With big screen TV's and free Wi-fi - it is a great place to wait out rush hour. The sign out front advertises that it is the home of the ""Chrisanni"" - my curiousity got the best of me....I had to have one. This is an extraordinary grilled panini sandwich that was more than I could finish. Lots of meat and cheese, spices and vegies. They have a tasty selection of coffees and a breakfast items too - even biscuts and sausage gravy - or so I was told. Oh yes, and they really do sell a wonderful pink lemonade that I personally enjoyed with the panini...Chrisanni. They were busy the afternoon I was in setting up for a sweet sixteen party that was scheduled for that evening, The young man behind the counter told me that they normally reserve Sundays for private parties - bachellorette, receptions, etc, but they are making every effort to be of service to the Deep Ellum community and to others who might be looking for something out of the ordinary. This is a truely unique concept - I think it will do very well if they can keep up the friendly service.

    Most unique in Deep Ellum

    Provided by

My wife and daughter and I did a sampling breakfast at a new place in Deep Ellum called Excuses. A warm friendly space with a lot to offer. Big screen TV's, Free Wi-Fi, Pool Tables and Games and a juke box so you can choose your favorite music. For breakfast we sampled the fresh baked Belgium Waffels, the breakfast pizza and a still warm Rasberry white-chocolate scone. One of the owners sat and chatted with us about all their plans. It was good to hear someone really enthusiastic about the Deep Ellum area. I live down here and have a business too. My daughter and I played a game of pool and darts and had a really great time. I plan to bring my employees back next week to do a little lunch sampling. The menu talks about a panini sandwich - I saw one going to another table and, had I not already been stuffed, would have ordered one of those too. Oh, yes the coffee was excellent - I chose the Kona and my wife had decaf. My daughter had the orange juice and was even provided a free refill. We left the dog at home this morning, but next time we will bring Theo with us and sit out on the patio. They have a bowl of doggie biscuts and water for those pooches who might be out walking their people. The owners here are really trying to provide every excuse for people to stop in. They have only been open a short time, and have quite a vision for our Deep Ellum Area.

    Perfect Poker Place for non-smokers

    Provided by

If you are looking for the perfect place to play Texas Holdems, I found it. I think this place used to be a night club in Deep Ellum. It is kind of on the South East side of the area near baylor Hospital and right off Hall street on Main Street. They host a fantastic Saturday evening tournament with great prizes. This is a cool place too with a lot more room for players. The Poker tournaments start at 7 and 10, but you need to be there an hour before to check in. There is no fee to play poker, but Excuses puts up two great first prises and two nice second prises for each Poker tournament. Excuses is cute restaurant and bar with $2.00 draft beer and really great pizzas and sandwiches. Because they are a restaurant there is no smoking inside, but they have a cute - rather creative patio outside for the smokers who must. One other great thing about Excuses is that they have free off-street parking. The staff at Excuses is great too, they are always wanting to serve their customers. I thought I would take this opportunity to write for them because, right now they are just getting started and I really want them to do well.

    Fun fun fun

    Provided by

This new cafe is more like a club house. It has a arcade like food bar ( but the food is upper scale) with wrap sandwiches, coffee, lemonade, and bagels as well as other treats. It also has a FULL bar ! And GAMES! Pool tables, arcade games, packman, and darts. Its a pretty cool place to sit and work at as well with FREE Wi-fi and great music, you could really sit here all day and kick back. They are brand new , so right now you could take over the place with a group of friends, so bring the 'crew' and have your own party while you can claim it as YOUR new neighborhood bar and play house. Give it a try, I think you will enjoy it!
