The name everywhere else is "South Branch Public Library" and is in the Granville County Public Library System. (I get tired of Thornton library staff's attitude, not user friendly, so I usually drive the extra 8 miles to South), South Branch's 2007 summer reading program was a WONDERFUL surprise. There were new events each day, Little Red Riding Hood enacted by 2 college theater students, live birds flying and singing, balloon animal/objects in motion..., highlighting themes and books. Miss Kate (South's manager) was actually able to engage my kid, the one with the "I don't want to" attitude in conversation. Following her suggestions, he see some rewards of reading, now he craves books (he actually asked her to get more of a series he likes). She help adult readers too, I fell in love with fiction authors she recommended. Now, my kids talk about books, subjects, and other library stuff, not just storytime (Miss Markley does do a good job with stories and crafts). To keep such a growing library neat and clean they all work fast and hard. It's just that, since Miss Kate came, South Branch is more warm, inviting place with eye-catching displays of books.
