Marlo's Down Under

Yeah, it's expensive compared to the other restaurants around, but it is head and shoulders above the local eateries. Chef Nick Scott prepares elegant and flavorful meals that will appeal to the more sophisticated crowd. I am not sure if this crowd is large enough in Covington (this is the home of the "meat and three.") Fabulous menu that changes seasonally. There is always something on here that is exceptionally good (try a fish dish, particularly the Chilean Sea Bass.)
The atmosphere is great but it goes down from there. The service was extremely slow and with the exception of the appetizer, the food was tasteless.
We waited almost 20 minutes for our drinks and even longer for the appetizer. After that we waited another 45 minutes for our meal and the restaurant wasn't that busy!
I had the Pork Medallions and my husband had the Seabass, with the Bruschetta as an appetizer. If the entree's were as good as the bruschetta the meal would have been great but that wasn't the case.
We picked up a flyer in which this restaurant was described as - 'a place that will not disappoint.' It is all that and more. Their fried artichoke appetitizer is to die for - literally! Their main dishes are elegant and include fare from land and sea. They seem to specialize in fish - and do it very well. The only con's are 1) the place is it is hard to find (the door is on a side street and you actually walk in thru a doorway in the basement and 2) since it located in the basement it is often cold - so ladies bring a sweater. This is now our favorite spot to eat - we drive about 45 minutes to get there and it is worth every minute. Enjoy!
