Isn't it ironic. . .

My friend wanted to purchase a large dog from there and was filling out an application. Then one of the employees asked if the dog would be inside. He said that he would keep it outside, but he has large brick dog house, and plenty of large trees in a large fenced in 5 ache ranch for him to run around in. HE WAS DENIED. Because the large dog would be outside, even though they keep THEIR dogs outside in a small metal cage. One of the dogs there was even DEAD. This dog had a chance to have a large and wonderful home, but they selfishly denied him. These people are hypocritical and had absolutely no reason to deny him as he would have made a wonderful owner. I feel bad for the dog, I hope he does not die like his poor doggy friend did.

Gulf Coast Humane Society IS H...

Gulf Coast Humane Society IS HEARTLESS & INHUMANE. My daughter believes in rescuing verses purchasing as shelters are overwhelmed with precious furry friends needing a home. She has always been an animal lover and has nursed many back to health when others would have chosen to have them put to sleep. I even came home to a baby calf in our tub once that lost its mom cuz she couldn’t bear to leave it outside alone (it only spent 1 night in the house). Recently, she promised her 3 ½ yr old daughter they would find the perfect companion for her. They decided on “Bambi” a mixed breed puppy being held at GCHS. She made several calls speaking to an employee about Bambi, explaining to them she had a 2 hr drive with small children, but was told they could not hold Bambi for her. She is unfamiliar with the Corpus area and doesn’t travel with her small children alone, so she found an adult to ride with her and called when they left confirming Bambi was still available. Upon arrival, she advised them she was there to see Bambi and was informed Bambi was 3 mos. old (which she knew) and Bambi had to be 4 mos. to be adopted by a family with children under 5. My daughter was devastated, she called twice that day and had advised them she would be traveling with small children to adopt Bambi and was never asked how old her children were or advised Bambi had to go to a home with children over 5. This means in 1 mo. her children will be old enough for Bambi, but yesterday they were not. Really, they will mature enough in 1 mo. to adopt Bambi? The employee suggested they go ahead and be placed in a room to play with Bambi while my daughter filled out the app. and possibly they would make an exception. My granddaughter and her adult cousin played with Bambi while my daughter completed the app. and was told to wait while she checked on the approval. My daughter felt sure they were going to make an exception as they let Bambi and her “soon to be family” play for a long time and they were clearly compatible. The employee walked back in and told my daughter, no, she couldn’t adopt Bambi. The person making the decision never spoke to them or observed Bambi interact with them. They just said no. My daughter started crying as she explained my granddaughter would be heartbroken and asked why they let them travel that far and go through the entire process if they were not going to let them adopt Bambi? The employee just turned around and walked away. Why didn’t they tell her on the phone that her children had to be over 5? They knew Bambi was the only puppy she was interested in and she told them she had small children. She said it was the most horrible experience she ever had as she left with my granddaughter sobbing and crying out Bambi’s name as they left the bldg. Then she had to put a heartbroken little girl back in a car seat and make the long 2 hour drive home without Bambi. Oh, and my adult nephew who was with them tried to adopt Bambi himself and they told him No, they knew what he was up to. Really, you are trying to find families for all of these homeless animals and one mo. is going to keep you from giving Bambi a good home. My daughter brings her other two small dogs to my house all the time to spend the night when they come. They are part of our family and I have to take my dog to visit my granddaughter when I go because she loves her so much. Bambi would have had a wonderful home. This place is horrible and does NOT care about their animals or the real animal lovers out there. I know rules must be made and followed, but they should have explained this on the phone and they should have NOT let my granddaughter play with Bambi and give my daughter any hope of adopting her if they knew they would possibly say no. I will make sure everyone I come in contact with NEVER adopts from Gulf Coast Humane Society. It’s less expensive to just buy and apparently less heartbreaking.

We just adopted a dog from the...

We just adopted a dog from the GCHS. Everyone there was friendly and helpful. The volunteers were sweet with the animals and everything seemed clean and organized. If there were any negative comments in previous years, it's obvious they've tried hard to fix any problems. Our little dog was happy and healthy and they made sure that we would take good care of him. Please...if you want a new little family member, be sure to check out the animals at the GCHS.

Let's be fair...

Come on folks, be fair about your reviews. This shelter is the ONLY humane society in the area. The staff is well trained and has since some of these reviews has undergone serious training for the well-being of the animals that call this shelter home. Also a change made for the better, is the former director has since walked out and has been replaced. Those of you that choose to hold back your donations for your various petty differences, how about donating some time and volunteer to see how difficult it really is for the upkeep of the shelter and the animals. It isnt an easy job and the staff should be commended for the work they do. Dont judge from the word of a former worker that didnt even do her own job. You want to make a difference, use your voice and speak up to the present director or manager, dont speak negatively on the web. Give them all a chance, they do a hard job in a city that doesnt seem to care about their animals.

Please HELP the ANIMALS

I wanted to comment about the Money Hungry and Rude Director review.\r
\r
The supposed purpose for the GCHS is to Help the Animals. I think that the $150.00 fee is counter productive. If the reason for such a high fee is to make sure people have enough money to take care of the pet, that implies that people with a more modest income can not take care of and love animals properly. That would be pretty bad if it is the underlying reason. As far as the high fee being necessary because of cost of taking care of these animals, I am skeptical about that. I know some people give generous donations. I am not sure if all of the staff of GCHS are volunteers. If some are being paid generous salaries, maybe they should do some soul searching to see if they are there for the animals or the money.\r
$150.00 fee seems to me to be counter productive. What is the ultimate goal of GCHS? To sell animals and make some money? Or, is it to try and get these animals adopted into loving and caring homes? \r
I think $150.00 fee prohibits some animals from ever knowing what it is like to be loved and taken care of in a HOME and FAMILY of their own. The $150.00 fee makes sure that some of the animals to a life in a kennel where they grow old and die.\r
I really think the ADMINISTRATORS or DIRECTORS of GCHS need to examine their motives.\r
It seems to me that if other animal shelters can have fees that are more reasonable, the GCHS could also have more reasonable fees.\r
Sincerely, a fellow animal love,\r
pkuptrkdrivr

GCHS doesn't need help THAT BADLY!

Went a couple of weeks ago to look for a companion dog for my Boston Terrier. Before I could reply the woman said "we don't have any Boston Terriers". I said that I just wanted a female dog @ 2 yrs. old @ 25-30 lbs any compatible breed. She said they didn't have anything at the time. COME ON!!!!!!!!!! I'd like to speak to Cody who begs every Thursday on the radio about how much the GCHS needs money, food kitty litter, newspapers, blankets, bleach, buckets.on and on .
If yo REALLY wanted to place these animals you wold let us at least SEE THEM! !'m sorry but my contributions will no longer go to GCHS I will find a shelter that needs and appreciates the help.
If you only knew what a wonderful home I would have given one of those poor babies you would be ashamed!

Money HUngry and Rude Director

went into the GCHS today and found a dog I adored. She was the right size weighing only 15-20lbs. and 5 years old. When I went to the front to inquire about her they informed me the fee to adopt her was $150.00. I was shocked to say the least. The dog was not only older and a mutt but she didnt weigh much at all. It was crazy they wanted that much to adopt her out. Their website says the prices on adoptions for dogs vary from weight but when I called the society they claimed the website was wrong and thats a good deal here in South Texas. Which the guy was wrong because I adopted my other dog in San Antonio and it was only $50.00. I believe this organization is fixed on making money and not in fact focused on finding these dogs a good home. Its very sad. I even called the director Denise and she not only hung up on me several times but became very irate when I questioned the price of the adoption fees. This place is horrible and I would not recommend adopting from here. The staff is rude and unpleasant.

GCHS the purebred profit hounds

I too visited the GCHS several time in 1 month and I sure will not go back.Denny bales I guess is somebody with the great dane Admiral(who bites) but is allowed to be around people and other dogs unmuzzled? Also the directo I think her name was Denise (I heard the young men in the kennels talking about how they got drunk at her house and 1 of them was bragging about sleeping with her while her husband was gone. The doctor there while I did not meet her she made her presence very known when she virbally abused a spanish women with 3 young childern right in the lobby saying she had 3 kids and probably could not afford the dog they wanted..I was truly shocked at this women. Then after she left the women at the lobby desk that worked there wer laughing at how pysco she is and if were up to her she would not adopt out to any one whos bank account wans't at least 100,000.00. Needless to say its all about the 500.00 boxer or what ever purebred is there. I think they need to find qualified peple to run this facility, they are really scrapping the bottom of the barrel in this facility.

response to mtnmike...

In response to the first review...I assure you that the Humane Society in Corpus would love to have all of the things that you talked about. While you were visiting Corpus did you fail to look around town at all the stray dogs and cats that populate our streets? With the MULTIPLE rescue organizations in this city unable to keep up with the numbers of abandoned animals I wonder if any of these organizations will ever see this "profit" of which you speak.
