This has to be one of the niceset restaurants that I have ever been to. The food was excellent and the prices were medium but compared to the food it was below the standard price. The staff was excellent. The only drawback that I could see is that I was led to believe it was a romantic atmosphere. It probably would have been had we gotten there after sunset. As it was we got there long before the sun set so the room was bright which in my opinion is not very romantic. I would think in the winter when the sun sets earlier it would be very romantic. I would rate this place a 5+ in most anyones book.
Enjoyed lunch here today, my wife had a wonderful chicken portobello 1/2 sandwich and I the baked penne pasta. Both were very good and I would order them again, and again. Their blue cheese (house salad) is the best, and we finished up with a very rich and flavorful calzone. Almost forgot, as an antipasti we ordered the calamari which which was done to perfection! Unfortunately they only come with the rings and not the tentacles. "Sylvia" provided us with personalized, attentive, and friendly service. Can't wait to come back again............ Great first impression.
The real deal Italian! I used to live in New York City where really good family owned Italian restaurants are common. Much harder to find a good one in Texas. Two items stood out at our table, the calamari (at most places in Texas it is rubbery and oily -- not here, it was just right. I complemented the dish to the server who said that they cut it fresh in the kitchen which makes all the difference) and the Tiramisu. Lot's of places have Tiramisu, very few do it well. Mama's was just the way it is supposed to be. I'm definitely coming back here when I am in Corpus.
