The Cherbourg Bakery in Bexley advertises "gluten and nut free goodness" and "local ingredients." Somewhat skeptically, I thought, "Hmmmm... gluten and nut free. I'm not so sure," but when my wife and I tried four of their products, we were delightfully surprised. All were delicious!
The bakery claims the double-lemon bars, lightly dusted with powdered sugar ($2.50) are their most popular item and I can see why. They are bursting with fresh lemon flavor. The seasonal pumpkin chocolate chip bars ($2.50) are also a special treat, especially for my fellow chocaholics. The madeline is a butter cookie baked in a special mold. The savory egg strata ($3.75) makes a filling breakfast treat. We loved ours, made with carameled onion, chevre, basil and sun-dried tomatoes, and I understand ingredients vary from day to day.
The Cherbourg Bakery has a few outdoor tables. I strongly suggest you at least stop in to try the samples at the counter. I predict you'll leave with goodies in hand.
