The staff kept following me and my young children around as if we were going to steal something. Everywhere we walked they glared at us. When asked if I needed something I inquired if they sold a smaller bag of substrate for plants (they only had a huge $40 bag) and the owner acted as if i was a moron. He stated in an extremely condescending tone "you can use any type of gravel for substrate." Really cool aquariums but horrible customer service. They think they know it all ,Their prices are too high and they're rude as can be! They do have a great set up ,but no thanks, I'll go to jacks and get quality fish good info and best of all , friendly customer service !

Beautiful store, hit or miss quality

This store if very beautiful. Good selection of fish and plants. Prices are a little high bit if you join their club you get %25 off. They only give a 48 hour warranty on fish. By the time you realize you bought sick fish it's too late. So choose carefully and always quarantine.

I disagree with all of the negative reviews! This was our first trip to aquarium adventures, And we walked in to a very clean store, With knowledgeable, And friendly staff members. The sales associate Kelly, was more than eager to help us, And she answered our questions and helped us find exactly what we were looking for.
All in all an overall great experience!! We will definitely come back the next time we're in Columbus!!

They are owned by petland which is all about puppy mills. They do not know much about fish and they target the uninformed newbies. Their staff are slightly above the uninformed newbies in theory and practice. This is not a compliment. They are hardly experts when you look around at some of their competitors such as Nautilus Aquatics, which has some of the best aquariums I have ever seen, and had no idea was possible to do with an aquarium.

...view moreing bags of fish from new shipments and just dumping them from a net straight into their tanks. This is extremely cruel and irresponsible. I have heard they put to death entire tanks of fish, just so they do not have to treat the animals. Just because a fish may not be of high value in the market is no excuse for this cruel behavior from so called experts.

I hate this overpriced store and think it would be better for the animals if it were to be shut down. I strongly advise everyone to steer clear of this extremely high priced monstrosity. Sure it is nice to walk thru, but you are much better off getting your fish elsewhere, and your supplies online or through a service company. As for their service...forget it unless you want to take out a second mortgage and have poor mistreated animals to sit and look at.

We had fun at this store, they have a very large selection of fish. My granddaughter who is 8 could not stop jumping up and down when we saw all of the fish ( saltwater and freshwater). We had to be in Columbus for other stuff, and when we found out this store was just around the corner we stopped in. I will drive back down to get my angel fish even though it is a 2 hour drive from my house. They have the best selection I have ever seen. If it was up to me I would have gotten the fish right then, and they would all be dead because I did not know you have to wait and let the tank run for up to 2 week before you put some fish in it.view less

The staff is great for the most part, the fish selection is HUGE. Although the prices are a bit steep if you want it you can find it here. I have been helped by several people here and always had a good experience, except when I need to return a filter. I was exposed to a manger which has been mentioned here before (Chrystal). She told me that since I had opened the box and tried to use my (broken) filter I could not have a refund on my {broken} filter purchase. I will still shop here ...view morefor my fish, since the staff is great, however I will not buy equipment since having to deal with chrystal. She was very rude and left me with my broken filter and started texting on her phone like I was unvaluable and my business didnt matter. Irresponsible, no follow thru, doesn't keep appointments

I met them at the home show in Columbus. Bragged how they could come out and help us with our pond. I called them, set up an appointment for a Thurs. I never heard from them. I called on Friday left a message asking if they would be out on Friday, Noone called me back. Called the store numerous times and left messages noone called me back. I was a first-time aquarium buyer when I visited this store in mid January of 2012. The service in the store and on the phone was poor in nearly every respect. I would never return to this store and buy anything. The owner seems to dislike customers as noted below.

...view moreas not cracked. Chrystal discourteously and insensitively brushed off my objections. I have never been asked to do something like this by a retail store in 50 years of buying breakable things!
Two small warm water tropical fish that I purchased about a week after setting up my tank died in a couple of days. I tried to return the second fish on 02/17/12 in the morning. I had the water tested and Andy told me the water tested well. Then I asked him if he could swap a live harlequin rashbora for the dead one I had with me. He said I would have to go through the cash register for this $3.25 refund, despite the fact that there was a long line due to an annual 50% off fish sale, and despite the fact I was a lifetime member of their "fish club.” The owner told me no exception could be made. He then told me to do business at another store. I walked out totally disgusted with the dead fish still in a plastic bag my hand. I never returned it since the owner had made it clear I was not welcome.
About two weeks later I called the store to see if I could get a refund for the lifetime "fish club" membership costing $24.99. The Chrystal above did not consider a partial refund or check to see if I had been overcharged.
Some of the products are overpriced, as another reviewer commented. On the original purchase, I was not sold the glue or the proper (cost-effective) water treatment solution. The employee who sold the items to me admitted the errors.
I would advise customers who want personal, trusting service to try another aquarium store, even if a person has to drive a little distance, to get better service and better value. Although it has a large selection and impressive technical atmosphere, this store would not survive if there were more competition in the area due to the deficient customer service in the most important areas: courtesy, fairness, competitive pricing, and openness to customer feedback. Some day there likely will be a new friendly aquarium store in the area given this store's track record!
I should mention, to be fair, that the floor sales rep Andy, who helped me select fish, driftwood, and plants, is very knowledgeable and experienced in aquariums. He has a degree in biology and has done aquatic field work in the Amazon Valley in South America. Andy is also easy-going, polite, patient with questions, and quite a contrast to the other sales people on the floor, including the owner.

terrible customer service, I won't be back!

I'm not the type to write reviews at all, and in fact this is the 1st business review I've ever written. That said, this store is a disaster! The customer service is atrocious, and I will never return. I used to work in retail years ago, and I have never seen this degree of arrogance, & lack of customer service like you'll receive at Aquarium Adventure anywhere before. They have a decent selection of overpriced livestock, but are often times infected with parasites (marine ick), or ...view morejust in overall poor health. The management (specifically the owner), has NO customer service skills, and is the reason I will NEVER return. I intended to return a few sump plumbing pieces that I bought the week before, but did not fit my system (the orig associate gave me parts that did not fit together, and the pieces totaled approx $10 total), and was replacing w/ parts that did fit, and was also purchasing addtl goods that would have totaled $100. The store manager (who I've had several nasty/unprofessional experiences with in the past), refused to exchange the pieces w/o a receipt even though the price tags and bag I had them in were clearly theirs, and regardless of the fact that his associate gave me the wrong size parts. I admit I lost my temper, and called him every name under the sun, but this situation was the last straw, and I will NEVER be returning to this location.
