Japan House Restaurant

I have to start off and qualify this review by stating that I'm a sushi snob. I've eaten sushi all over the world and would coose it any day over any other type of food. I know there is a vast preponderance of mediocrity out there.



When my family and I moved up to Sandpint ID in 2006 from Portland, we were very disappointed in the lack of any sushi choice locally. Over the last week my wife saw Japan House on local TV so we decided to give it a try. We arrived 4PM on a Saturday afternoon to a very cleanly laid out small restaurant. We very quickly settled on a number of rolls, and were going to have some miso soup. The owner convinced us to try some tea, and to our happy surprise she had some amazing jasmine tea.



I have to say that this meal stands out in my experience of sushi meals as in my top 3 in 42 years. The rolls and sushi were excellent, and the quality of the fish was unexpectedly excellent. Mimi (I think her name was) provided us amazing service in spite of the fact that her two servers had called in sick leaving her alone.



Recommended: Dragon Roll (with king crab) ama ebi (you HAVE to get the deep fried heads), and my girls loved the 'Godzilla' roll. Soft shelled crab, tiger eyes, and northwest roll were rate very highly by the other customers there also.



I am very stingy and careful about recommending sushi places, but unequivocably give this one a solid "A".
