Overall
Vox Royal Guardsman

I recently bought a group of old amps from a guy who played "back in the day".

One of these was a '67 Vox Royal Guardsman Head that was noisy and in pretty bad shape all around. I took it over to Beamish to see if they thought it could be saved.

I gave it to Chris at Beamish. Two weeks later he called to tell me it was ready - and boy was it. I took it home, plugged it in and tried each channel. I played a Strat HSS, an Ibanex AS73 Semi-Hollow, and a '69 Gibson J-50 through it.

My original intent was to fix this up to the point where i could sell it and get some of the money back I paid for the group of amps to begin with, but this thing is not leaving my basement except to go to gigs. It's dead-quiet when you're not playing and as loud as you want to be when you are. The reverb, Tremolo, and MRB effects are unbelievable and the tone can be squeaky-clean or smoothly distorted to your liking.

I have an original '66 Fender Deluxe Reverb and a '66 Showman - and everybody knows what they sound like. Well this little Vox gem sounds JUST as good - just different.

Even with the repair bill, I still have way less in this thing than I could sell it for - as if.

Beamish hit a home run with this one.
