General Info

Established in 1841, the Clearwater Police Department safeguards the lives and property of residents, businesses and visitors, as well as maintains social law and order. It maintains criminal investigation, patrol and communication divisions. The department operates a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team that responds to high-risk law enforcement requirements. The Clearwater Police Department s office of professional standards investigates complaints that are filed against the employees of the police department, handles policy development and implementation and serves as a point of coordination for special projects. It employs more than 300 sworn officers and civilian employees. The department has a support services division that serves as the infrastructure of the police department and is comprised of differential police response, computer operations, property and fiscal services units. The Clearwater Police Department operates a citizens police academy and a Chaplain program. It also conducts neighborhood watch, ride along, and field training and evaluation programs. The department is located in Clearwater, Fla.
