I called this establishment at 7:58 pm to ask them what time they close as my wife was en route to their store. The employee answered that they close at 8:00. I told them my wife would be pulling up any second for one item that she really needed. I called my wife to tell her and as I did she was literally walking up to the door. The employee says ""we're closed-it's after 8 o'clock"". My wife (with me on the phone) asks ""can I just get one thing, I see there are several people that are still in your check-out line (yet my wife was the only one at the door). The answer was a stern ""No, sorry."" The time was now 8:01.
My estimate is those rushing to close the door in my wife's face would have had to spend maybe two additional minutes acommodating her as a customer. They would have felt they they had been helpful to someone who rushed to buy their stuff. My wife would have felt grateful and more apt to come back and to recommend their business.
This act of strict adherence to policy/ uncaring attitude is the type of presentation that allows the world to look at a ""christian"" organization and call foul. What if my wife was not a christian and knowing this business claims to be had the above experience? Would it have brought her closer to the cross? What if she was in transition and was searching for examples of christian kindness to validate her decision-would this have helped or hurt?
I assume that the CEO, David Green would not have condoned this action-regardless of spiritual/ religious claim, it was just BAD BUSINESS! Our challenge as Christians when doors are slammed in our faces without cause is to forgive as we are forgiven....but it's not easy and it certainly does not lead one to readily recommend a business-or want to come back.
