When I need to get around in the dark I always prepare a ride via friend or taxi. I call about two days in advanced with a follow up call for confirmation the day before for said taxi. This morning the fruits of my preparation did not blossom. The cab company I had originally set my appointment with confirmed Friday afternoon for the 3am Saturday taxi I would need. At both 3:10am and 3:15am there was no answer to their call line. By 3:20 I was frantically looking for another cab. At 3:36am Liberty Cab (the 4 taxi service in my googled taxi search) actually had a person on the other end to receive phone calls spoke to me and said there was a 2hour plus wait. I explained my dilemma of needing to be on a train at 3:50am and the service operator said to give her 10 minutes. At precisely 3:44am, a taxi appeared and was able to get me to the train station where the train already sat loading. I was the last to board the train before it's departure. I cannot express in words how deeply appreciative I am for their services this early morning. I will defiantly be booking with them again in the future.

Instead of getting home immediately following an exhausting weekend for my dad's funeral, I was exchanging phone-calls with Liberty dispatch, and finally the boss, for over one hour. The driver was told by other cab drivers to move. Clearly, they didn't want competition. Instead of realizing this, and that the customer comes first, she felt it reasonable to demand that I walk to Southwest terminal to find her. I couldn't even see Southwest. An airport worker appropriately argued I need not; he'd find me a more reasonable way home. Thus began a competition for my business (that ranged up to a $220 price tag on my ride home). I was in no mood. The driver was clearly upset with me when we finally connected, emphasizing how late she was running and not apologizing for expecting me to walk across the airport to find her. She said that she was at Alaska airlines (same location where American airlines taxis pull up), but this isn't true. Some basic common sense, honesty, and communication is needed.
Usually pretty quick, most of the drivers know their way around town pretty well, but for being the biggest company in town, they really need to get with the times and get set up so that all drivers can take credit/debit cards. I know the bar hoppers usually have cash or are willing to pay to go to the bank, but when I'm in a hurry to get to work, I don't want to waste the time or the money to go to the bank. I never use cash anymore, partly because I walk through downtown at 4am when I get off work and would rather not be carrying cash.
