My wife and I were leaving the mall one Sunday afternoon when we spotted Petland Chicago Ridge. We heard rumors about Petland and their affiliation with puppy mills but decided to check it out anyway. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by a kind sales associate who, without asking, brought out an adorable puppy. She then insisted we play with the pup inside a cubicle. Needless to say, we were thrilled! So far, so good! After a lengthy and scripted sales pitch, we were told the price was $1700 - $1800. I can't remember exactly because I blacked out when I heard "thousand". Forgive my sarcasm, but really!? Sensing our dissatisfaction, the sales girl recommended I apply for their high interest financing. There's no way in hell I would pay that much for a dog even with a payment plan! Ok, so I had to ask the sales associate.... "Where exactly are your puppies from again?" She replied, "Our puppies come from USDA breeders." I assume she forgot to say "inspected". I then asked for more info and to my surprise she handed me a booklet containing the breeder's name and address. It seemed legit at first. On a hunch, I did a quick google search on my phone to see if I could locate more details on this breeder. Now here's the shocking part.................................. The dog WAS from a puppy mill! The name of the puppy mill is Heritage Puppies. Heritage Puppies is a notorious puppy mill located in the Midwest. Heritage Puppies manufactures dogs on a massive scale and houses them in filthy, disgusting cages. These dogs are essentially slaves whose sole purpose is to reproduce for greedy pet shop owners. I couldn't believe it! THE RUMORS WERE TRUE! Petland doesn't necessarily hide that their puppies are born in puppy mills. Instead, they depend on uninformed customers who fall for their deceptive sale pitch. Petland confuses customers by advertising that their breeders are "USDA Inspected". This is misleading because it implies the dogs are bred humanely. If you ask they will provide the name and address of the breeder. However, a simple google search will unveil the dirty details they obviously don't want you to know. There's an organization targeting Petland Chicago Ridge because of its strong ties to well known puppy mills. Please Google "The Puppy Mill Project".The Puppy Mill Project has uploaded official documents on their website that reveal Petland Chicago Ridge does in fact source their pups from unethical breeders. There's no denying it. The paper trail speaks for itself. This is public information so please do your research. Unfortunately some states (especially in the Midwest) currently lack the proper laws needed to protect these animals. As of April 2015, puppy mills can legally operate in the United States with the USDA's blessing. Petland can legally obtain their puppies from well known puppy mills and resell them to YOU.......the unsuspecting customer! Despite the overwhelming evidence, Petland still denies that their puppies are born in puppy mills. UNLESS YOU WANT BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS, STAY AWAY FROM PETLAND CHICAGO RIDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have been looking for a Siberian Husky for three months and I should have known better then to purchase a dog from Pet Land. My boys and I couldn't resist when we found a blue eyed male. When we brought him home he seemed fine until about 20 hours later he started crying, wheezing, vomiting, and literally passing out, falling flat on his side, would stop breathing and start shaking. This continued happening on and off for about 15 more hours. We took him immediately to the veterinarian the following morning. Come to find out he had a Congenital Disease and a huge hole in his heart, the vet told us that he requires very expensive immediate surgery, that he most likely would not even survive.. He also had an upper respiratory infection. Pet Land's veterinarian told us to take him back to the store immediately! When I contacted Pet Land they told me that they have the dogs looked at once a week!? What kind of veterinarian's do they have that would not recognize how sick my poor puppy was! They also told me that they knew that he had an upper respiratory infection but "figured I would be taking him to the vet in five days anyway"! What kind of horrible people would do this to a poor dog!? We ended up bringing the dog back due to its untreatable illness and my three boys are devastated.

Kristina was awesome and greeted us at the door and then continued to help us the whole time we were in the store. I've never experienced such great customer service!

Stopped in your store today to see where we purchased our little snowball, our 15 year old Maltese. We moved to St. John Indiana about 10 years ago and this is the first time I've been back in the area. Our Maltese has been the healthiest and happiest dog we have ever had. Your store still looks cleaner and better organized like back in 1996 when we purchased our puppy. Thank you for our snowball!!

I love this store!!! It's always clean and the first thing you think when you walk in the door is "hey, no pet store smell... it actually smells great in here". They have everything I need and at great prices. They even carry your 40lbs bag of dog food out to your car... 5 stars!!!!

Every time I bring my bunny in to get his nails trimmed. Mary always help us out and makes us happy. We like visiting her so much we brought Mary a gift card today to show our appreciation.

In late September I brought home my adorable Boxer pup from Petland. Her name is Sadie she is nine months old now, and she is the best dog I have ever had my entire life. She is very obedient and never leaves my side. She is like my child only better cause she doesn't cry and can't talk back. Buying her was the best decision I've made as far as pets go. I look forward to the years ahead with my baby girl. Thanks so much Petland.
