I don't usually write reviews, but the review that I saw for this groomer made me upset. I've been bringing my shih-tzu to Paws-A-Tively for almost 3 years (as long as I've had her, after trying a few places I wouldn't recommend), and the experience has always been good.
The woman who works the front of the store on Saturdays is overly friendly, and always excited to see my dog. She writes down what hair cut is given each time, so you can just say ""same as last time,"" and know what you'll get. Also, my dog smells great when I bring her home; not all perfume-y like some groomers, just fresh and clean.
For holidays, they put themed bandanas on the dogs, which is super-cute. Other times, sometimes we get bandanas, sometimes bows. Either way, it's adorable!
Occasionally, they won't clip my dog's face enough, but when I come to pick her up, they're always happy to touch it up if I'm not completely satisfied.
Drop-off is between 8am and 10am; when you drop off, they'll give you an estimate of when your dog will be ready. When he/she is ready, they will call you to tell you. One tip - if you want your dog ready earlier, then drop him/her off earlier. It seems like first-in, first-out.
It's not super cheap - my shih-tzu is $48, before tip. But it's in line with other places in the city, and worth it because the hair cut is good and she smells great.

After a couple of referrals, I took my precious Bichon to be groomed at Paws-A-Tively. The lady would not listen to my comments or directions on how I wanted my dog cut. She said to pick up the dog in three hours. When I arrived, they had shaved her down to the skin. Mind you, this is January in Chicago and the temperature is below zero. The dog was totally traumatized and shaking. The woman charged me $58 and kept telling me it was in the best interest of the dog. She is certifiably crazy. There were young people in the back grooming other dogs, I doubt any of them had any accredidation. If you love your dog, please give long and careful consideration before taking your pet to this ""groomer"".
